Volume seems to cut in half

...when I add a center speaker to my system.

I was looking for a center channel csi20 to match my r30's and I walked into a great deal at my local CC. It was open box but had the sales guy hook it up to the center they had on at the time and it sounded great. No damage to the speakers, burn smell etc....

My question is : why is it when I hook the center speaker to my system, the fronts lose their volume output and the overall sound is low for all three speakers? I have to turn up the volume very high to get a comparable loudness level to when I just have the two fronts on. Also the fronts seem to sound flat with the center speaker on. I tried the large and small settings for all three just to experiment but the overall sound is very tinny. All of the wires are hooked up correctly so it's not incorrect polarity.

I have an H/K avr 225 and two r30's as my fronts and a csi20center. As of now I don't have a sub and any rear speakers yet..

any info would be helpful......thanks

What surround mode are you listening to with the extra speakers?

you are most likely using the pro logic surround mode for 3 channel stereo which sucks IMO.

the sound could also be a result of the wattage drop, the specs say that the wattage drops by 10 when you are in a surround mode, since hk tends to be conservative on their wattage ratings the drop might be alittle bit more. but i dont think that would cause that big of an audible difference.

    try some different surround modes
