I realize there's a market for such things. But, I've gotta say: I am trying to figure out why I would ever want a 75-inch television. Heck, I don't think there's an open surface large enough to put such a thing in this house -- and it's not a particularly small house.

Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me.

What a great deal! I wish I'd waited a few more years as I paid 4 times that amount for my 75'' flatscreen tv 3 or 4 years ago.

That is a sweet TV. The Z is hard to beat. I just ordered the 75” 940E to replace my DLP. 4K on these sets is amazing.
Now they just need to release the Dolby Vision update to complete the software for our displays. Only the Extreme processors will get that update.

I keep looking at the Sony OLED and think well this might be the replacement for my Kuro. The Z series is also damn killer and I don't honestly know which one I like better. I lean towards the Z but the OLED looks so damn impressive. So much better then the LG or anything else on the market except the Z series Sony which might be still better.

As I just mentioned on another forum, I went with the Sony Z as OLED is still a new technology with unknown reliability. LED on the other hand is a mature, well understood technology.

The OLED still doesn’t have the brightness level of the 940/Z9 models. The black level is impressive in the Z9/940 making it the sweet spot for me.
I love the black level of OLED but I know it’s not a finished technology.
I would go for the Z if price is not a factor. The 940E this year has A few updates last years 940D needed. It is not the Z9 but it is a lot closer than last years model.
It was hard to justify the extra $2700 in the 75” when they are side by side this year.
Replacing your Kuro is a hard sale. I still have 2 VT Panasonic plasma in the bedrooms. They aren’t going anywhere.

that looks better than my 65", circa 2010, 1080p Panasonic plasma.

Here is something I posted online back in May. Fans of the film "Withnail and I" should get the reference. :p

Damn, what a nice early Christmas gift that would have made for... ME.
I still love my ancient 67" Sammy LED DLP, but that would have been a tough one
to pass up. I'm almost glad the price went up. :s:s
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

  • I just don’t understand this large tv trend for most folks. I get having a large tv in a HT situation but the trend of having these massive televisions in living/family room is ridiculous. Just sayin.

When we upgraded our HT from a 60” plasma to a projector the plan was to move the 60 to the family room. Well after trying to live with it for almost a year we pretty much gave it away and purchased a 49” HDR. It looks so much better in the room than that 60. I couldn’t imagine a 75” in the average or even greater than average living room.

    I think it depends on...

    A ) Viewing distance
B ) The importance of TV in an individuals life.

I have a 60" in the living room, but it is a fairly large room and mounted on the mantle. We have a 50" in the bedroom, but again a fairly large bedroom. I have a 120" projections screen in the basement....

Our family watches a lot of TV/movies. We also read a lot of books etc, but we enjoy a lot of visual entertainment.

In most spaces, we had a smaller screen and ended up going bigger...

  • Yeah I know one’s taste is their own, our living room is big room also with plenty of room for the 60. The couch at least 15 back but we grew tired of the big ol screen being the focal point of the room. It’s a great deal on that one though.

The avatar, yea, the kids showed me Snapchat.

For TV I use my 1998 Panasonic 32” CRT in my office. For movies I use the 75” Sony in an 11x12 room. It is perfect. Just like being at the movies, and the audio is better.
