Avoid any alcohol based cleaners as the damage the Shellac.

Audio Intelligent vinyl solutions has a cleaner called "Premium Archivist which is safe for 78's available from music direct...

do some web searches for hints & as most say it is safe to use a little water and mild detergent.

  • It's been a bit since I've had vinyl, so I might be wrong (as if !) but I tend to think that vinyl and concrete don't mix in the most desirable fashion.
    So I'd recommend the following:

Step 1: Remove albums from driveway
    Step 2: ....... uhm ..... that's all I've got.

I'm afraid that F1's prediction may come true. There may be some vinyl guru that can offer a "rabbit out of the hat" solution, so good luck !

For fun and curiosity I smashed an old 78 into pieces, put them in a jar filled with denatured alcohol and waited for the shellac to dissolve. It never did.....guess that 78 wasn't made from shellac after all.

Yeah....I was pretty sure what y'all would say. I may put them up on Ebay for some artist type to make something out of them, but Im tired of holding onto stuff.

You could make wall art out of them. I've also seen artist types make bowls with them.

Excellent work ! You could label this piece, "George Thorogood". :)

Decisiveness. That's a good quality in a person.

Let's see, You started with around 50 pieces of fecal matter to pickup and now you've got what around 200-300 pieces of fecal matter all over the place to pickup.

    Smooth move Ex-lax.

Harvey Pekar is rolling over in his grave! :o

Interestingly, 78's do better than Digital download Karmas.

It's the passion he used to smash the discs. It shows his angst and anger towards capitalism. Showing them that he will not conform to society!
    Bravo! $28k is a bargain!
