Dayens Ampino. Tube sound in a solid state design. It's tiny but has mucho power.
The iFi Stereo 50 is a superb unit but likely out of your price range.
the Dayens prove to me that some lower wpc amps and integrated amps can drive some serious speakers. I heard them on multiple speakers and wouldn't hesitate to run my Usher with them or some 703's with them.
I'd still own a pair of Dayens some day.2 ch- Polk CRS+ * Vincent SA-31MK Preamp * Vincent Sp-331 Amp * Marantz SA8005 SACD * Project Xperience Classic TT * Sumiko Blue Point #2 MC cartridge

Want smaller? How about an 8 incher???

^^^THIS. I have one, and love it. WAF is top notch on this one with the glass and the underlit tubes (kind of cheesy, but looks cool in a dim room).
You can find them cheaper. I think I got mine new for not much over $400 from Jolida - it was sold as a "B-Stock" for something that I can't see in the finish on the front. I honestly can't see any flaw.
There's also a PS Audio Sprout near me for I think around $345 that I've been seriously kicking around... If only I could get myself to sell some of the lesser used audio equipment I have!
If the Acurus A80 was something you were considering, I had one for sale in the FM... I decided I was going to keep it, but could be tempted otherwise...

Well I talked to her some more, and she doesn't see why I want to spend money, when her 20 yo spx boom box works "just fine"... Yeah, that ain't happening. So plans have shifted a bit. I have to shrink my initial price range. WAF is still in effect, so small is the name of the game. Tubes are also out of the question at this price point, it'll have to be class A/B IC (boo!!!) I happened across something that might foot the bill here: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/smsl-ad18-bluetooth-stereo-and-usb-power-amplifier?1=1&utm_placement=0&referer=SP9PZ5&mode=guest_open&utm_campaign=Automated Daily Promotional 2017-09-19&utm_source=SparkPost&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Daily Promotional&utm_content=1505826887998.862205153454161440633056
Anyone have experience with this brand? -
Yeah it's worth a try at that price. Worst case: it'll serve as a good start for a headphone rig...

as much as I'd like to... That's 2.3x my initial budget and I'm in no mood to loose what good graces I have with Caety lol. Besides, I need to save some pennies to pick up a few more NAD pieces. -

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but, I'm thinking about grabbing one of these for work...seems to offer a lot for the buck.

Yeah... I've been eyeballing that one... God I love me some NAD, but unfortunately I can't swing it given the new perameters from the powers that be. Maybe sometime in the future, just not now. -

Not quite, I'm going to grab the SMSL AD18 I found on mass drop, can't beat that price, and gives me an opportunity to review it for the forum.

Yup, should arrive right before her birthday. Now I need to prep the monitors.
-
It's here already!!!
Now I need to seal up the amp side of my new to me powered monitors and get it all installed into her studio. Review will come after that and break in period.

Yeah it's smaller than I expected. But that increases WAF.

That seems counter intuitive... Don't I want more better sounds AND more better WAF? -
