I like your list; have you tried the aforementioned Aoife O'Donovan yet -- or her side-project, I'm With Her (speaking of Sarah Jarosz)?
Oh, and why not add Laura Nyro to your list?
https://youtu.be/Ve6PSCUOYvE
She wrote a lot of songs that were huuuuuges hits for others -- and she died tragically young.

Duke Ellington had a great band which Quincey Jones had the chutzpah to quit start his own band.
-
Damn guys that Greta Van Fleet is jammin'.
I'm gonna have to give that a closer listen...I disabled signatures. -
I think, along these lines, a bit of this is what we've grown up on, as well? I still go back to the stuff I loved when I was younger - more carefree times, less responsibility - and new stuff is a harder sell for it to really earn a lasting place in my collection as a favorite, because the experiences aren't tied to it?
Then, also, the market is flooded with music and listening methods. Almost overload, overexposure, too much access. I find myself easily bored and underwhelmed as well. Definitely a lot to weed through. Can't exactly turn on the radio these days and just listen for great new music.
It's out there, but I have to agree, seems rare that something new *really* speaks to me. I'm enjoying broadening my exposure to other genres like folk, blues and early jazz. Need to spend a bit more time there. And then there's all this great stuff you guys talk about from the 60s and 70s that I've not even barely tapped. I've been spending most of my background listening time with various electronic and mood genres, depending. Thanks all for some suggestions. I'll definitely go through these. As a person who was into music in the late 60's, and a teen through the 70's, there was just so much music out there; Yes; Kansas; Rush; Boston; Styx, REO, Journey; Stones; Zepplin; Montrose; Van Halen; and hundreds more--I think I got spoiled. I'm still going back and grabbing music I just never got around to owning during the 60's/70's.I disabled signatures. -
@steveinaz you missed a whole lot of so called progressive bands, which I still collect but how much have you gotten into fusion, what ever the hell that is? Have a cup of Weather Report or Return to Forever or something. Rock N' Roll been dead! Long live Rock! Listening to Tony Williams right now, he's dead too.
-
I agree with Tony, country is the new rock. Keith Urban and Brad Paisely can rip on a guitar. I like to watch them play the way I used to like to watch Eddie Van Halen. But this morning I'm playing The Who, Golden Earing, Styx, BTO, Boston for my 14 year old daughter. Showing her what some of our rock was like. It's loud enough so we can feel it, and her legs and toes are actually moving. She even said "I like it." There's hope for the younger generation yet!Integrated Amp: Marantz PM-10

I listen to Radio Paradise often when working around the house and always find something new to me and worth exploring. I'll look up the playlist history on the RP webs and explore later in Roon. I have added WAY too many new artists due to RP and Roon, hehe.
RP is eclectic but there's new rock in the mix. They have a 320mbps stream in addition to others. Can be played via mobile app, desktop, and through Roon, Sonos, and, I imagine, several other music mgmt apps.
Here's the stream link page:

I guess maybe being a bit younger than the average forum member here, I do not see there being a type of music that is strictly "Rock", but I see many decades of "Rock type" music, that has drastically changed and merged into other genres and sounds, and flipped around and so on,.......

That explains a lot...... -
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?
http://audiomilitia.proboards.com/ -
that's what I was thinkin'...
-
Back to our regularly scheduled programming... I've been sitting around listening to random shuffle on the new Woodbourne (well - Craigslist - new to me) today and being lazy... here's a couple newish rock acts - I think they fall in that blues/rock to hard rock genre too:
Royal Blood (Little Monster, Lights Out)
Ayron Jones & the Way (Baptized in Muddy Waters, Devil's Hand)
You really should check out Temperance Movement. Seen them twice and they are a true vintage rock act. A combination of the Black Crowes and I don't know what, the singers got a great rock snarl and he spazzes on stage like Jagger.
"Ain't No Telling" will tell you all you need to know (see what I did there?)
"Only Friend" and "Take it Back" should be enough to finish getting you started.
The real deal IMO ... steps off soapbox...

I second Royal Blood - pure, hard core talent there.
I also really like Muse. Yeah, some of it is overly 'electronic', but really addictive, and man, can Matt Bellamy sing! -

Larkin Poe saw these young ladies open up for Bob Seger and they are considered to be little sisters of the Almann Brothers they both play guitar and thebopder sister plays a mean slide guitar. I bought third CD its pretty good for a new band.Home Theater
