Is Rock dead?

Is there anything worth listening to anymore? I'm pretty open minded with music, but for the last 6-7 years, I can't find a damn thing to buy. I suffer my way through MTV, hoping to make a discovery of something---garbage. This isn't old man syndrome, most of this current music simply sucks. I've heard better garage bands. No complexity, no layering, 99% computer created dung.

ANY music at this point. Doesn't have to be rock. I do listen to a number of streaming services---NUTHIN. I just don't hear anything that excites me; like I said, the complexity/quality just doesn't seem to be there. An exception is Country, but even country lately hasn't done much for me. Everything is frickin techno/dance, rap hip-hop crud that is as complex as Schroeder one-fingering "jingle-bells" on the piano.
Is there no high quality (talking substance---not audio quality) music out there? Everything sounds like musics' version of fast food; worst yet, frozen food.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
Steve, you hear The War On Drugs?
Their album Lost In The Dream was one of the last really good surprises I happened across.I disabled signatures. -
Appreciate the suggestions. I'll take a listen. I like most everything except the exceptions listed above. I may even like some of those, if i heard anything of any substance or groove.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Lots of good music being made - great suggestions above. Here in LA we have a great Alt Rock station - lots of new music on there, as well as the "similar" or "recommended for you" (based on your other music usually) artists online. You'll find some good stuff.
A few thoughts:
Band of Heathens
Black Keys
The Temperance Movement
North Mississippi Allstars

All relatively recent discoveries for me that fall in the wide rock spectrum.

Guys...what are you listening to?
I randomly find a lot of stuff I like on Spotify.
Could it be you are just burnt out on rock music in general?
Maybe try some variations on stuff that is not quite rock.
I am not sure if listing stuff I personally like would help you, I think you need to find that certain sound, that is new or exciting and then go from there.
I have been on a jazz phase for a while, but now have started listening to a lot of "Classic" rock, something I have not made a lot of effort to find until lately. -
I recently found Sean Rowe, and I am enjoying the complex sounds on his recordings. Female vocals have been my mainstay traditionally, but his baritone is bringing all kinds of new traits out in my system."Conservative Libertarians love the country, progressive leftists love the government." - Andrew Wilkow

I'll second that. Plus they have a new one out today. -

Check out some of the Alternative stations on your favorite streaming platform. Unfortunately, Alt is moving towards the mainstream. (Or is the mainstream moving towards Alternative?)

As far as the teen/early twenties crowd now, yes it's dead. It's been replaced with Pop, Rap, and Techno wub wub music.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Thanks all for some suggestions. I'll definitely go through these. As a person who was into music in the late 60's, and a teen through the 70's, there was just so much music out there; Yes; Kansas; Rush; Boston; Styx, REO, Journey; Stones; Zepplin; Montrose; Van Halen; and hundreds more--I think I got spoiled. I'm still going back and grabbing music I just never got around to owning during the 60's/70's.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I hear ya man, a choir for myself also. Is rock dead ?? In the sense that we are used to, yes. Country is the new rock. Throw in some Rap/funk/pop for fun. Just plain old rock n roll though, gone.
Might be some little known bands still rockin' on rock, haven't heard any yet I'd care to listen to twice though. That's just me however, I can still dig modern stuff, if it's good, but that's more far and few between for me. Personally I think it's a lack of talent these days, or interest, in good old fashioned rock n roll. Everyone wants that club hit, if ya know what I mean.HT SYSTEM-

How many years must one practice clicking a mouse button to get good? Probably way more than guitar or drums, clicking is complicated. You really have to get that muscle memory down.
I find it weird to pay for a concert and the "performer" just stands there playing music off their laptop.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

I like to find and or remember artist by reading Wikipedia about who I am listening to. I am often surprised by who recorded or played with someone somewhere in their career. Like Ornette Coleman having Gerry Garcia playing on a few of his recordings, go figure? The is a lot of great stuff from back in the day. Ever listen to Count Bassie? Big bands to trios from back then never left me wanting.
