New to me RTA11TL

New to the forum....

About to pickup a dead mint pair of RTA11TLs locally with new, upgraded tweeter for $150. Will play them as is for a bit before upgrading. Was thinking of throwing in Dayton caps for the 12/16 and leaving the big cap. I'll see.

Curious what users are driving them with. I have a restored Marantz 2270 and Sony ES integrated.

First set of Polks. What can I expect!? My favorite speakers currently are restored/upgraded Original Large Advents and a pair of upgraded Boston A100s. Mostly acoustic jazz, some rock and classical. I like accuracy over boom and clarity of presentation.

Thanks in advance!!

Very nice set of speakers I would love to get ahold of a pair that nice for that price. I would put better sets of caps and resistors in as well. Many here like clarity or sonicaps. Dayton is ok if your on a tight budget. If it comes down to it and that is the caps you go with I'd get the 1% version in all locations on the board if possible. If you can swing it get some better for the high pass. The Daytons will be much better than factory for sure.
They like good high current but will run with receivers. The better high current integrated and power amps will reward you very well with those.
Welcome to Club Polk and stash your wallet we will help you spend it for sure.

Interesting, I've always used Dayton caps and have been really happy with results. You guys feel it's worth while changing resistors too? Ill rope caulk the drivers and radiators. Maybe put some deading material on woofer baskets.

Sounds like these have pretty accurate bass and can play pretty deep. Looking forward to getting them setup!

    Do not rope caulk anything.

Mills resistors are a must and no Daytons.

I also have the RDO-198 tweeters but went Clarity Cap PX for the tweeter caps and Mundorf MR10 resistors and Jensen for the mid-woofer caps. I am very pleased with the results. Also consider: Dynamating the mid-woofer baskets and Passive Radiator baskets.

    Mills resistors

The rest has been covered. I just wanted to check both speakers, have the RD-0198 tweeters. These are black domes, and do not have a foam ring around them.

    Yep, both tweeters upgraded...

Anyone have a link for the proper resistors? Thx!

Damn predictive text. Fixed it in the nick of time, thanks.

Use this instead. ^^^^^^^ If your stock gaskets are not torn they should still work.
Rope caulk was used in the past but can create more problems later when you need to pull drivers.

Welcome to CP. The RTA-11tl are exceptionally good speakers. If you're on a tight budget, I'd recommend the Clarity PX as mentioned, for the high and low pass. Clarity ESA for the high pass and PX for the low pass also work well together. I prefer Sonicaps all around, rather than mix and match.

    Should be 12W, 1.5ohm. I usually recommend Soniccraft.com, but it doesn't appear that they're currently stocking 1.5R in 12W or 10W Mills.

Mills resistors may be a thing of the past. I believe they were bought out again by Vashay-Dale. That is the rumors I have been hearing. Good thing is Mundorf should still be viable but theirs are 10watt instead of 12watt but still very good stuff. Most all here have ditched the cheap sand cast resistors for better non inductive resistors. They are still very reasonable priced and you are already in there so why not get something better.

Did the TLs come in walnut? I thought it was only black and the T's were the wood.

They came in natural oak, natural walnut and black oak wood veneer finishes. I attached the brochure, tech info and instructions for the RTA_TL series.
