Seeing as I doubled my album collection, I thought it was time to invest in one. I'm having a record cleaning party at my place....for anyone who is interested. Wooo-hooo!

Nice, I'm hoping to get a spin clean for my birthday coming up. I don't have many records so it will do for now.
Does yours come with a vacuum? -
Congrats! My mother-in-law thinks I'm a clean freak with the sweeper
running all the time. -

I'm enjoying vinyl again so much I found myself trolling the internet for an upgrade in cartridge....currently have a Ortofon Red but looking at a Blue or possibly Bronze. I probably will never buy new vinyl, as my thing is hanging out at Goodwills and yard sales. Turntable is an older Music Hall mmf 7.

My wife bought me a spin clean for my birthday. Really like it. So much easier than by hand.

It's hard to convince someone how important a vacuum RCM is until they try it for themselves.
In all honesty, for someone planning to mostly buy used albums I would almost recommend a RCM before a table.2 ChannelTurntable - VPI Classic 2/Ortofon 2M BlueAmplification - Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II, Parks Audio Budgie PhonoSpeakers - GoldenEar Triton 17.2 Home TheaterDenon AVR-X3300W; Rotel RMB-1066; Klipsch RP-280F's, Klipsch RP-450C, Polk FXi3's, Polk RC60i; Dual SVS PB 2000's; BenQ HT2050; Elite Screens 120"Man CaveTurntable - Pro-Ject 2.9 Wood/Grado GoldAmplification - Dared SL2000a, McCormack DNA 0.5 DeluxeCD: Cambridge AudioSpeakers - Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary; LSiM 703; SDA 2A -

Hello kevhed72 and good evening to you. Wise purchase. You may also want to introduce steam cleaning to your LP's in conjunction with the RCM. The RCM brings you to an estimated 90% of unwanted artifacts. Add a steam cleaner and that level goes to an estimated 96%.
If done right, you will never know that it's an LP with the pops and ticks throughout the song....unless the LP is damaged. If that's the case, then you are out of luck whichever way you go....short of replacing the album.
Done correctly, the only time I notice that it's an LP playing (other than the obvious sonics) is when the song ends and there is blank space between the songs.
Food for thought. Just throwing it out there.

The above link was when I purchased my steam cleaner. Now I have two different models to steam the LP's and plenty of attachments. It's a long read but many heavy LP hitters chimed in to discuss this topic. I just thought it may be of interest to you.
Have a good evening.

I have a Spin Clean available for sale. Not to crap up your thread man, just putting it out there. Only used it once on about 50 records & 45's. It's the starter kit with plenty of cleaning fluid left over (I only used three cap fulls of the stuff - it goes a long way).Audio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro

I'm also looking forward to the improvement that a good cleaning system will bring to my records. About ready to pull the trigger on a ultrasonic cleaner but I plan to incorporate a steam cleaning too..probably as an initial clean before going into the US tank. Will end the cleaning routine with a rinse and vacuum with something either homemade or one of the several ones you can find on the net.
It seems like a lot of work(mostly a lot of time) but after I get my humble collection cleaned it shouldn't be too bad as new record purchases are not all that often.Yep, my name really is Bob.

I'm game for a steam cleaner....ran a couple of 78s which were super crusty through the record doctor and ended up scrubbing the crap out of them by hand w a micro fiber cloth....which jacked up the cloth. Also now trolling the internet for a new pre upgrade from my project phono box.
-
Cleaned all my records went through 2 tubs in the spin clean each time the water was very dark, couldn't believe it.
-
Kev, how're you liking the Record Doctor? What kind of results are you seeing?
Curious about your cleaning process, the solution, specifically. Wondering whether you're using premade or tried your own yet? I need to get more brushes, myself. I feel like I'm mashing stuff back into the grooves using felt.
Tom - good info on steam. Gonna read up on that myself.
I think my problem with records is that most of the ones I have are newer poorly pressed ones. The old records I have sound much cleaner. I almost steer clear of 180gm double releases. I've had the most trouble with those, noise, warp and other blem-wise. It's maddening. Over the past year I've been messing with cleaners.
Tried the CanFab 3D vacuum RCM. Very helpful, great entry. Not quite satisfied with the results, and was curious about ultrasonic, so...
also just recently got an ultrasonic built - one of Brian's (@ER308L) well thought out kits. Very nice, easy to build and set up. It helps a lot, and I can see stuff in the water, but still don't think I'm at your "96%" yet
edit - so JM said the ultrasonic did better than steam + vac?I disabled signatures.
