There is a higher end model coming later this year. Sony Blu ray players like everyone elses under $500 are basically crap.

I'm surprised it plays DVD-A's. They were always against that.

I think because we are so past those formats they are just putting the technology in there for the very select few who have it to make this cheap crappy player attractive.

Good points Dan. I think any idea of buying a quality component under 500 bucks should be exorcized from the brain. What they sell today is technology, not quality. Ever so apparent in TV's, receivers, BDP's, etc.

Like the old adage that "sex sells" in advertising, in audio it's "technology sells". Everyone wants the latest and greatest, they'll pay the most for it too. Doesn't mean it will last 3 years though.
