More Granite State horn insanity -- or, Emilars are "go"

So -- very early Tuesday morning (earlier than normal folks would be awake), I espied something on eBAY that I hadn't espied there before: an Emilar EH-500-2 horn (sans its optional 1" throat adaptor and kind of scruffy cosmetically) with a reasonable BIN. So -- I Bought It. Now. (OK, technically, I Bought It Then -- but work with me, here).
It arrived today.
Now, thanks to the enablement of world-renowned Audio Enable Joe ("Sound Practices") Roberts, I happen to have, on loan, another slightly scruffy, adaptor-less EH-500-2* that arrived here a couple of days ago.
Two 500 Hz 2" horns.
Two JBL 2441 2" drivers in the basement.
You can guess the rest.
I just pulled off the Community horns (with 1" adaptors and Altec 802Ds on 'em) and substituted the Emilars and the JBLs.
Per the advice of one of the local gurus, for this experiment, the XOs have been stripped down to first order: 2.5 mH coils on the woofer sections of the 604Es (which I am guessing/believing/hoping are more or less nominally 8 ohm) and 20 uF capacitors on the 16 ohm compression drivers. 500 Hz, nominally (these are, nominally, 500 Hz horns).
Oh, and a couple of 16 ohm L-pads on the HF drivers.
Oh, and the Fostex T90As on top of everything, supertweeting via 2 uF capacitors & 8-ohm L-pads. I mean, why the fark not?
Listening to a live Grateful Dead CD called Road To Terrapin (Hartford, CT, 1977).
"How does it sound, Marky?" I hear you ask.
I think that Meg Ryan put it best:

* Actually, Enabler Joe has loaned me two Emilar EH-500-2s. A while back, he sent up a pristine EH-500-2 complete with the 1" adaptor, which I tried (mono-a-mono, so to speak) with an 802D a while back, and which got me interested in this amazingly compact, nicely made, and sweet-sounding 500 Hz horn. Joe is a big fan of these, and has, single-handedly, contributed to their comparative rarity

-- and, in the on-deck circle, the Community 500 Hz horns with 1" adaptors and Altec 802Ds. These are what I've been listening to lately, prior to today's adventure.

Somebody local please go a check on the esteemed educator.......I fear he has succumed to the winter/horn madness and will not see daylight for months now.
Top notch work, Doc....
-
Actually the sun is shining brightly into my lair as I type this -- but the temperature is nearly 40 degrees colder today than it was this time yesterday.
Oh, and Mrs. H is outta town on a birding trip to the vicinity of Duluth, Minnesota -- can you kinda tell?
-
Aaahhh yes.....trouncing around your abode in skivvies and black socks.
And glass of fermented grape at hand.
Live it up, Doc! -
No Phase Linear gear, though -- well, OK, there is a Flame Linear 200 on a shelf, but it ain't the same thing.
I don't see Rebecca De Mornay, either.
(PS I just looked her up on Google, to see how to spell her name -- she's nearly as old as I am)

(I also promise that I'll use a better quality capacitor, at least, in the final version -- whatever that turns out to be)
EDIT: By the way, the substrate for the crossover in the photo is an example of the seldom seen KLH Ten loudspeaker from the early 1960s. Most of Henry Kloss' "heritage" products were sealed box (acoustic suspension) designs -- but the Ten used a bass reflex enclosure (!). -
Mr Hardy seems to be quite "horn"y as of late teheheheheh"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963)

That's cause Mrs H is out "birding".... -
Point to point wiring just took on a whole new meaning for me.

I must be getting the dreaded winter horn madness too, as this is looking very interesting to me. Was that out loud?

I think I am gonna sell the pair of 511Bs I have -- I am just saying.

In all seriousness, I am not pimping these 511Bs. At least not yet.

naah, store-bought (Parts Express).
Actually, the coils were a Christmas present from our son He's a good lad, he is.

So -- yesterday I was rootin' around in the basement, looking for something -- and I found these.

(I apologize for leavin' the price tag on there -- that's kinda crass, isn't it?)
Gary Kaufman had picked up a mess of these at one of the local surplus electronics places. I -- ahem -- ended up with eight of them.
They're 20 uF!?!
Ergo, I will swap these in for the Daytons post-haste.
Meanwhile, I am listening to an actual stereo program, Friday Night Jazz, on Vermont Public Radio, on my tuna. http://digital.vpr.net/#stream/0
Here's actual proof that it does receive stereo.

I am a little bit embarrassed by the fuzzy little wooglies on the inside surface of the dial glass. I am also a little afraid to try to get at and clean them away. Maybe someday...
In person, it's not quite as -- obvious.
Honest.
