I would be tempted to give my left nut for that! At my age, who needs both anyways?

Damn this amp is impressive. Tubes do matter. Much more detail and imagining. I have this paired with the slp-05 right now.

Indeed they do Sir., hard to go back to SS once you get a taste. I'd also like to hear some impressions paired with the JE 300.

    ....and if I didn't know better, I'd say ....

Tony today I have the LA 300 hooked up and ready to go. I am willing to bet this will be the winning combination. If the LA brings in more bass it will be killer.

We'll see Bob, or YOU'LL see. Either pre amp is a destination piece to get you off the pre amp merry-go-round. Both have their own flavor. I'm really interested to hear your thoughts paired with the JE pre though. If I'm not mistaken I think Judd built that amp to mate specifically with the 300. He had different variations of his OTL amps too, the man liked to tinker.

Hey Bob.....I'm not too familiar with OTL amps. Do these need to drive high efficiency speakers only?

Full tubes from Cary 05 to Cary 211FE. It was good and ethereal. But when you get up there in SS amps, the tube amps lose out on many aspects.

My general thinking (at this time and subject to change):

Tube amps scale up quickly in terms of sound quality to price. A cheap tube amp can smoke a cheap SS amp.

But as you move up SS amps, they gain on the tube amps and at some point, the tables turn.

That said, I kept my Cary 211FE SRA amp stands because.... I'm hoping to score a pair of Cary 805AE... Set magic for my vocal recordings.

I guess let me clarify, it's not that I won't go full tubes again, but it won't be my primary.

I think my Cary had a 60 second warm up.

My Boulder has a 45 second warm up

The OTL is 10 minutes tops but I agree the warmer the better. This sucker warms my basement room nicely. Just started playing with the adjustable feedback controls. nice option.

An OTL amp is essentially the 'ideal' amp. It doesn't vary its power output due to speaker impedance, so it basically controls the speaker much better. The problem with Output Transformerless amps is they can get expensive quick. Get your read on here:

This amp is so adjustable what I want to give it a good workout. I am very pleased with this amp. Now that I found the feedback control that really opens up the sound stage. I have never used a tube amp before so I am in a learning curve right now. I love the bias adjustments, the voltage can be varied and now the feedback control.

With the Pass amp it was turn it on and go. This is much more fun and involved to play with.

I won't be selling either amp for quite a while. Thanks

edit, I would not sell either of these pre amps either. I like both so well.
