    Depends on whom one asks.
The T35 is pretty shrill relative to my tastes, but can sound pretty good. I don't think the Klipsch crossovers make the best use of them, though.

So, here's the thing: the Heresys are -- lively, sensitive and dynamic. But they're also aggressive and short of bass. Y'all may know I owned a pair of Cornwalls for a decade. They made some things sound quite good, but anything but top-quality source material was a crapshoot with them -- and some recordings, to me, were just plain unlistenable. I don't have this "problem" with Altecs -- but that's me, and my ears.

If you look around, you'll see there's a cottage industry of "mods" (the vanguard of which nowadays is a fellow called Bob Crites) for the Klipsch "heritage" loudspeakers that basically change out everything in them but the grille cloth and badges. There's a reason for that, I'd opine.

The only "mods" I did to the Cornies was to damp the bejabbers out of that ringy MR horn with rope caulk :) When I sold them (one of the few hifi components I've ever really sold to get rid of, by the way), I put new XO capacitors in 'em (purchased by their new owner from Crites) and it did help them sound a little better. I should mention that their next owner was using a Mike Urban restored Fisher 800B with them -- and the Fisher receivers & the heritage Klipsches are a good combination.

For best results (and, of course, IMO), try your newfound Heresys with a good single-ended, direct heated triode amplifier (2A3 is a very good choice). I will say that the very best I ever heard my Cornwalls sound was being driven by a Marantz 8B I had just rehabbed for someone. Just a superb amplifier -- a little pricey, though.

All of the above offered strictly FYI and FWIW (and not that anyone asked).

Again FWIW, I think that by '79 the tweeters are probably (???) the ceramic "mud" magnet version of the T35s, rather than the earlier AlNiCo version.

They have the base but not the one that tilts them back.

There is a pair for sale here with the angled stands in cherry for $500. Not my favorite heritage Klipsch but still a solid all around speaker.

I have a pair that I have not unpacked yet since I moved. Their sound is very forward and projects far. They can fill a gym or large hall. Reflections can be a problem when the volume goes up. IMO they still produce a good sound stage. The bass is shy as mentioned. IMO tone control that boosts around 50-80Hz but rolls off fast in the 100's is good with them for the bass. They can do it, but the surround is doped fabric, so I get worried about pushing them too hard.

IMO the earlier models, mine are '76, do not need to be tilted back. As long as the floors are carpeted the highs and overall sound were fine. They did better this way overall. Maybe the later '79 tweeters were tamed enough. I don't remember when the risers wer offered. Crossover work is likely needed, and as mentioned there are many many options. The Klipsch forum is pretty good, but finding a middle ground on crossover and speaker mods can be tough.

I did the titanium tweeter diaphragm upgrade from Bob Crites on my KG4's and found it worthwhile. I liked those speakers.

I think the tilt-back base came with the modern Heresy III.

On this topic, I read somewhere on the internet recently (so it must be true) that the Col. did in fact intend for the Heresy center channel to be aimed at the listeners' knees (more or less) and that's why they have their very aggressive, forward tonal balance when more on-axis with one's ears.

Don't know that 100% fo' sho' though.

The going price for a nice pair's hovered in the $300 to 400 range for decades, by the way. So, yeah, $350's OK, I would think.
