Does anyone know where I can view the specs for the Peerless 5514. I believe that was oem for my RTA 12Bs. At least that is what was in there when I got them. Non working unfortunatly. I have some SL1000s in them now.
I wanted to compare the specs between the two and also between the Polk SL5501. I have a pair of 5501 not in use.
Thanks.

The specs? Or the actually speakers? Was looking for the spl / dB for the Peerless 5514 and and crossover frequancy spec for the 12b.

Both are 8 ohms. I might just try the sl5501 in the 12 b and see how it sounds. Not a huge fanumber of the sl1000 on there now.
I still have the 5514 but both have a short/open coil. -
Midwest speaker used to make a close copy. Might look into that, search them on eBay

Just find a pair of Peerless tweeters and be done with it. They're the best of the three you're looking at anyway.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Of all the old polks, those should be the easiest to experiment on tweeter wise.Don't take experimental gene therapies from known eugenicists.

I went ahead and put the SL5501's in the rta12b's. I very satisfied for now. They put my recently moved back in Paradigm Monitor 7v2 to shame. The imaging is far better with the 5501 vs the SL1000s I had in there. Also not as fatiguing to listen to.
I may unload my srs 2s to fund a recap for the 12b. I really want to change out the binding posts asap. I forgot how bad they sucks on the 12b until I moved everything out and back in the room for painting. -
Why not buy some RDO's to put in there?

RDO-194-1s, or the Original Peerless would be the best solution. The Peerless turn up on eBay quite often, and were used by many different manufacturers back in the day, not just Polk. Polk burned a pinhole in the dome, that's about the only difference.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Epic. The voice coil is too far forward though, they're not time aligned anymore.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Bukkake speakers
I guess this is the next worst thing after Kabuki speakers -- but I've gotta say I am a little afraid to even think too hard about the implications

LMAO! That's what I meant..
Kabuki!!!
That's what I get for posting early in the A.M. before coffee.
To the op, just get the correct replacement which is the RD0194-1. The tweeter you have in there is unsuitable for such a great speaker, especially if you are going to keep them like you say.
The correct tweeter is far more important that redoing the speaker teminals.
Do it right, not half/azzed

it's interesting that 'b-u-k-k-ake' survives the Vanilla Filter

Actually, and FWIW, I think the more apt term for his (or her) current configuration is Frankenpolk.
Frankenspeakers is (are?) a subject upon which I can orate with some authority

As long as he's happy with the sound, which I'm sure sound 10x better than the old mylar domes, and he had them on hand...

So Bukakke was in your auto correct! LOL early morning excuse!
I agree they are no the best solution for them. But for now they will do. I will have to decide on what tweeters will take their place for good before I do the crossovers.
When I did speak to Polk Parts I think he did recommend the RDO-194. But cant remember if they were drop in or needed an adjustment in the crossovers. I was also speaking to him about 198's for the SRS 2 so I might be getting it mixed up. This was a few months back.

I tried some metal dome paradigm tweeters. They sound horrible in them. Was a waste of time putting them in there. I do like thier sparkle and sizzle but there seems to be a huge void in the lower vocals. So the 194s it is. Will place the order soon.
