SDA SRS blade/blade: tweeter and i/c cable inquiry.

Good day all!

I recently acquired a pair of SDA SRS speakers. They are of an older generation as they use a blade/blade connector for the i/c cable.

Upon testing their function, I discovered a silent tweeter in one of the enclosures: 3rd from the top, of course.

My first question is regarding rdo194 retrofitting: is it a plug-and-play affair with this vintage SDA SRS?

Second question is regarding the i/c cable: it is missing. I only have a pin/blade i/c cable from my SDA SRS2's. Is the connection between the two enclosures as follows:
top blade to top blade, bottom blade to bottom blade?
I have neutrik connectors I can use to interconnect, just need to confirm how the original one is wired.

Thank you!

-Tomasz

The RDO-194-1 Tweeters are drop-in replacements. They are vastly superior to the old SL2000s, but do not blend well with them. Eventually, you'll have to replace them all. If you plan to replace the blade/blade connectors with SpeakONs, make note of how they connect to the circuit board. On the 1st through 3rd generation SDAs, one must be reversed.

Check the connectors to the tweeter. When I got my 2.3TL's one of the drivers was dead because the wire had fallen off.

    Yes, RDO's are better.

  • Thank you all for the responses!

Pumpkinman: please let me know what you would like for your i/c cable.

F1nut: thank you. In the blade/blade configuration, does each connector carry a signal? I believe I read that in the pin/blade, only one of the two connectors
    carries a signal.

Westmassguy: thank you. If I go for the rdo replacement, I will replace all eight tweeters. Because of the expense of doing that, I might decommission my SRS2's and use one of their tweeters in the SDA SRS until I am ready to carry out the RDO upgrade on them.
Regarding the i/c connections, I will check how they are wired internally, but for the sake of simplicity, as long as the large blade of one speaker is connected to the large blade of the other speaker, along with small blade to small blade, that is the correct way?

machone: I pulled the suspect tweeter out and confirmed a solid connection.
When I put my multimeter across the terminals, it reads open, so definitely fried.

One oddity I discovered is the tweeter wiring is all by a clear insulation wire labelled
"Vampire wire by sound connection" and the crimping although solid and tight, looks a tad sloppy. The mid/woofers are wired using the same wiring I saw in my SDA SRS2's and SDA 2B's. Is this how they were made at the time?

    Yes.

Correct, except if you use the AI-1 or Dreadnought, then the pin and blade both carry a signal.

    No need to check.

    Correct.
