I've officially been banned

From any more audio purchases for awhile. My amp is due to arrive any day now and a last set of cables from wire world oasis to replace a pair of aq diamond back. Then that's it. I was told it is time to work on other aspects of the house.
A new sectional is on its way. We had it made of material cover as opposed to leather like we currently have, this will help room acoustics seeing we have no soft materials in the room and then my wife will look for an area rug... again helping the acoustics out. Anyway no more gear for a long while but the furniture all has audio in mind. ;)
My wife is even talking about a new av cabinet. Something to with the new furniture...
This time I'll be very responsible and respectful of her wish as she has done the same for me since this summer which started my upgrades with the b&w 703... then so on and so on.

It's not fun but honestly, but completely understandable. It seems I go in cycles. Not upgrading for a long time then when I do boy do I ever. Then my wife brings me back to reality.

And here I was just looking at a beautiful pair of Altec 515Bs (for $1350 smackers) and I am giving serious consideration to selling/trading my spare pair of Altec Duplexes for a pair of Emilar EH-500 horns.

... so I guess I am empathetic, but not sympathetic.

I probably should be on an embargo from buying/selling stuff.

Selling, she'd be happy with. Oddly enough I was fully prepared to sell my rti set up and she's the one who said keep it all so when we finish the basement in a couple years you won't have to buy anything. Makes sense

Sometimes it makes sense to slow down and take stock, I've put myself on an "autoban" (intended to mean self-ban) that I have promptly ignored several times over the last 4 months when a good opportunity came up.

I think now though I really need to take stock and have some good, long listens so I'm not just making changes to make changes (not that I don't enjoy that too!). LOL I find the wife can be a helpful monitor for these types of things, she has more self control than I do!

Adding all that new furniture may prompt a NEED for an additional subwoofer. Good luck with abstinence! Hasn't worked for me. :)

I've changed my gear so many times I can't even keep track anymore. My wife thinks there is something wrong with me which she is probably right.
Over the last year or so I kinda lost some interest in my system. I use it now and really have no desire to change anything. The reason is I shifted my mental attention to my Guitar rig. I purchased 2 Guitars this year and about 10 effects pedals, multiple guitar cables and have been on a hunt for a new guitar amp.
My issues don't stop at A/v gear, it's anything I get attracted to. I start researching, thinking , planning and then figuring out how I'm gonna afford what I'm about to do.
In many ways I have wasted tons of money on my hobbies as I'm never quite satisfied. I always want something other then what I have.
I have found comfort in my Definitive Technology Mythos speaker package as the desire to change speakers every few years has gone away. I was on a hunt for B&W and I almost pulled the trigger a few times. Then Revel Started messing with me and I almost went down that path. Before all that when Polk came out with the LSIM series I thought " This is a great way to get back into a full Polk home theater speaker package but my Definitive Technology Mythos speakers to me sounded just so much better.
We carry Monitor Audio as well and I dug in but again my Def Tech system just does it for me so I finally let go of that journey well at least for now.

My attention is also towards getting a new car which I do every 3 years as I have been leasing for the last decade or so. I haven't been getting anything exciting as I need a SUV vehicle but don't WANT a SUV. I was a car guy before the need for an SUV happened. So since I sold my 2000 BMW 328i in 2005 , I've been driving SUV's ever since. For the last 3 years or so I've been dying for a sports car or something with a v8 or some awesome Horsepower. So now when my lease runs out, I'm gonna get either a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Hemi black top package or a Dodge Durango RT with a Hemi and Black top Package. So I can combine a sports car with a SUV since I still unfortunately need a SUV. I even considered just getting a normal SUV again and buying a Sports car 2 but then I figured why have the expense of owning 2 cars just for myself when I can combine the 2 and still enjoy it.

    Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time.

You were and presumably still are attracted to your wife So how do you, we, keep our attention to one significant other.....
But I hear you. It can be like an addiction, obsession. Like I said 2017 is a non audio purchasing year. That is unless something dies on me. Perhaps I'll start buying Cd's again... wait what are those?

The way I get around upgrades with the wife is if I'm having a problem with a component like I was with the Marantz I just tell her I need to get a replacement that will last longer and is better built.

So I got an Anthem MRX 720 to replace the Marantz, not an upgrade just a replacement! >:)

I can promise you Mark, what happened to you will NEVER happen to me!

    1. I don't have the room, if something new comes in, the old goes into the trash.
    2. I can't stand clutter.
    3. I am no longer interested in vinyl.
    4. I am no longer interested in increasing my cassette tape collection (don't listen to what I have now.
    5. You can only listen to so much gear at one time, if the rest is just sitting there unused, then what's the point of having it.

I love gadgets and new gear as much as the next person, but I like space and and room to move, you quickly lose that with too much stuff.

Did you get rid of the Marantz? If so, then that is reasonable and truly a replacement and she should/would easily agree.

I hear you and congratulations on your upcoming gear.
Putting a stop to it myself. I used to have a complete unfinished basement for my excess gear. Now all I have is one regular closet with drawers on the bottom. But I still surprise myself of what I can fit in there. I did get down to a pair of Sony ES SS M7 and the two bookshelf speakers that I made but now its full again, arg!
But its time to quit and save to move away from this hellhole Colorado.
