Entry Level Speaker Wire

Title says it all. I want to try some real cables for the first time. Pretty basic set up right now LSiM703s powered by a SC-65 and BDP-62fd for a source. I just have some standard 16 gauge Monster wires right now.

I have.been looking at the Audioquest type 4 wires in the no frills trim from Audio Advisor I need 8-10ft wires and do not mind purchasing used. Am I on the right track?

My budget is about $100 right now.

Thanks in advance

I'll second the Canare 4S11 suggestion, I've been using it for years.

100 bucks isn't much, if you could go to 150 I'd suggest Greg Strailey Reality cables on the used market, if you can find them.

    Skip,
What about the Helicon 16 you are using for your Polk Signature system?
At $7/meter there is room to buy some decent connectors and stay in budget.

I will second the straley reality cables. They don't come up on the market that often. The interconnects make a great match with the speaker cables.

I've had good luck with Canare 4s8 & 4s11, I terminate them with AudioQuest SureGrip 100's.

I also really like Signal Ultra's for the $$.

Right now I have AudioQuest Rocket 33's in my 2ch system that I really like. The Type 4's (No Frills) seem like a good value as well.

In my HT, I have Signal Ultra's on my fronts and Canare 4s8 running to my surrounds.

To answer your question, the type 4's are a respectable cable that have a good top-end.

For now....soon to be an AZ fan. Your playing with their middle of the road series too, comparing to AQ top of the line. I imagine there would be some real estate between them, but not much.

Just a guess though, I could be wrong.....as my wife constantly reminds me.

These type of solid-copper conductor type cables can really open a new persons mind to cable tonal changes. AQ is great for overly laid back speakers. About the highest I ever went up the AQ food chain was the Granite cable. Nice sounding, but a bit stiff, and I was wanting to try Kimber.

  • For some of my spkr. runs I went w/ Blue Jeans Cable-12gu.Belden w/ double set screw Nakamichi stubby banana plugs. I did go through the usual upgrading of I/Cs. I settled on BLC Analog i/c and Signal Cable i/c. Also using a gifted pair of Audio Quest dual headed i/c from Tony for my CDP.4k4vo608muqn.jpg

  • Mapleshade's speaker cables sound amazing to my ears. And i believe they are very close to $100. Very minimalist.
  • I ended up going with some MIT Terminator 2 cables for starters.
