New speakers or not?

I have a set of rta15tl speakers that I have had since new. The tweeters are blown so I have them unhooked and have an old set of bookshelf speakers wired in that set on top for my highs. The sound it marginal at best. I am either going to replace them with a set of 75t's or 70 series ll. Or try to make the Rta 15tl's sound good again with a new set of tweeters. Not sure if I want to put the time and money into the old ones if they are not going to sound as good as a new set. Would like to get some opinions please.

No comparison, you can fix your RTA-15TL's for $100 and they'll sound way better than dropping $200 on the speakers you're looking at.
Unless you're in Colorado. In that case I'll buy you the 75t's and you give me the RTA's.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Well worth fixing for twice that......never a reason to go backwards in sound quality

I'm planning on finally letting go of my RTA-8Ts in Feb. to get the new S60 Signature Series speakers. You might want to take a look at them, or the S55s.

This will be the third set of tweeters that I will be replacing on the speakers since new. I wonder if there is a problem with the crossovers? When the tweeters were working and were at high volume they would shut down. They would come back on when I turned the volume down. I have had this problem since I bought them in 1990. The drivers have always worked well.

Your amplifier isn't powerful enough to play your speakers at the volume you are. Turn it down or get a better amp.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

You are tripping the polyswitches (tweeter protection) because whatever you are driving them with is clipping at higher volume levels. So, what are you driving them with?Political Correctness'.........defined

I am using a denon 5.2 channel receiver that is rated at 75 watts a channel at 8 ohms. Last receiver was a mid range Harman kardon.

Yeah, that will do it for killing your speakers. You are over driving them because you don't have enough power to do so properly with just a receiver. If you have preouts, get an amp. Otherwise turn it down.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

Yep, severely under powered. As mentioned, add a power amp if possible otherwise get a high current integrated amp or separates. You'll be amazed at how much better they will sound even at low volume levels.Political Correctness'.........defined

My amp only has 2 subwoofer pre outs that I am using. I guess I will need either a new higher power receiver or a set of speakers that are a better match with my current receiver. I have 2 powered 12 inch subs that produce nice clean bass that sounds great. Maybe a nice set of Polk bookshelfs for the fronts.

Setting your RTA-15TL's to "small" in the AVR setup menu.would free up some amplifier power.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.
