As far as playing chess after watching Queen's Gambit I downloaded a chess program and have been playing against the computer. Not at the hardest level as I'm not skilled enough for that, not even close.

Like you it's shameful the mistakes I've also made. I don't think near as many moves ahead as I use to in college. I haven't played in decades. Maybe it's my age as I'll turn 70 in a few weeks. Hopefully the more I play it will improve my playing skills.
However it's good mental practice and I'm going to continue to play some as I enjoy it.

I remember when my father taught me how to play when I was young. He never let me win and it took me a year before I finally beat him back in the day.

I can relate. As a teen I played my neighbor who was a scientist of some sort. Never beat him but gave him a run for his $$ a few times. Haven't played a serious game in some time, I'm sure it would be frustrating.

Not sure if already mentioned; this is older but for some reason had not heard about it.

Republic of Doyle. Action-comedy series of a father & son PI in St. Johns. Nice scenery. Pretty good so far.

We just finished Little Fires Everywhere on Hulu. Really well done, and lots of literary elements, especially as it gets deeper in. It's not really a "fun" show, but a good story.

Been watching "Community" on Amazon prime (recommended by someone here). REALLY funny! Reminds me of the humor in "Schitt's Creek".

Both great shows, but they should have ended Community earlier. Schiit's ended at just the right time, making it great from start to finish.
Don't get me wrong, I still watched all of Community. But the first few seasons are much stronger.
