Well well well... They finally arrived

Wel wel wel... they finally arrived.

This whole ordeal took about a month. From the time I found the Wels, to getting my uncle to pick them up, then having them shipped to AQ HQ in Irvine, California for authentication, then having them authenticated and sent to my house.

AQ warns if they found it counterfeit or unauthorized, they would DESTROY the speaker wire without compensation... so I took a gamble.

Anyway, I was glad to find that they are authentic, legit, the real deal.

I received these about 3 days ago... and I was finally able to plug them into my system.

There are a few things I learned:
1. They are very heavy.
2. They are very stiff.
3. They are single-biwire (meaning biwired at the speaker end to separate treble and bass).... and they DO NOT FIT my speakers perfectly... I had to REVERSE the connections (meaning bass is connected to my speaker's treble, and vice versa). I may have to send it back some day for retermination... argh...

    Finally got some listening done.

I would have loved to do quick A/B between my garden variety wire and the WELs.... but I'm going to have to try again some other day/night.... it's really tough to wrangle these crazy wires.

One word on how they sound - remarkeable.

    Where is my coffee...

They are from 2014 originally, so they have been used.

They sound remarkable out of the box without warm up. Just a superb wire. I would like to listen more and do more comparisons but on a single switch, it's not placebo, it's component level upgrade.

Definitely takes the Boulder and let's it loose.

Just a little bummed that I'm going to need some cable risers to keep their weight from yanking the speaker binding posts and I will also need to send them to AQ HQ for retermination in the future.

Last I checked it's $600 to reterminate... I hope they mean $600 total not $600 per wire.

Well, that didn't take long. :(

    Enjoy the new cables @Joey_V.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

This may be but it doesen't mean cables do not matter. If it works for Joey and makes him happy don't rain on his parade.

    Enjoy!

Like others, I am very interested in hearing more about the differences you hear.

I will listen some more tonight, but regular wire sounds hazy, fuzzy, harsh.

The biggest difference I noticed and this was a low volumes since everyone was asleep and I did not want the wife to yell if Emma or Henry woke up (lol)... was that the WEL were far better at grounding or placing foundation to the stage. The voices were tighter and situated LOWER as well, so you're not extending your neck back as if you're staring upwards to the singer's mouth.

The blackness between the notes was stunning. The overall tone was solid and sounding more analog. I am surprised because these are PURE 100% silver not just plated... so I wasnt sure what to expect.

I am very impressed. I would honestly to take home the Audioquest OAK and compare to the WEL... compare the little brother to the big brother and see if I can hear a difference because to be honest, no one really has these WELS and no one has really published a comparison.

    Are they 31,000$ better... I don't know.

But for the price I paid, heck yeah.

You can buy a lot for $31,000.

My only problem is I have the bass and the treble terminations crossed at the speaker binding post section... it just can't reach...

    Hrm... not sure... lol

I would really like to get the kids their own little system to play on, even if it's a small one. Just exposure to music is great.

So I was able to do a quick a/b against my 12g copper wire and the wel.

    Yup.

    Difference is startling.

It's like everything was made denser rounder and more stable footing on the stage.

The new speakers have shiny silver looking posts... I doubt it's solid silver.

If the Audioquest are bi-wired then its still not a "fair" comparison on gauge.

    Your comparing 12/2 v 12/4....

But I get your point. The 10/2 I got from Douglas connection puts my 14 gauge to shame lol....

As an experiment, get the Cable Company to lend you a pair of Shunyata Zitron Anaconda speaker cables at $4K, and compare them to the $31K speaker cables. Then let us know what the extra $27K provides. :)

It's not biwired. That would cost double.

    Would love to.

I gotta get a pair for downstairs anyway.

The more meaningful comparison is oak vs wel... Same philosophy and cabling. 3 vs 31.
