hey Doc,

I'm ready to go SVS, I've narrowed my choices down to:

1. PB1-ISD

2. 20-39PCi

I really like the look of the tube sub, but I like the ability to set something on top of the box sub. I will be getting a pair of which ever I choose.
Question is: Any reason why I shouldn't get one of each?
I would put the tube up front for spacial reasons, and the box in back, where it would be the base for some Orchids.

thanks,

-Luc

    trubluluc,

I'll let Doc and others chime in with their own suggestions/recommendations, but I'll say this much for now. Depending on your specific listening environment and personal taste, suffice it to say that if you're in the financial position to purchase two PB1-ISD's or 20-39 PCi's, then you may also want to consider a single PB2-Plus or PC-Ultra.

The two choices have similar tune points and extension. They could be mixed in a room with good results, but you might have some phase issues with front to back placement.

    Agree with Kev - if you be spending $1200, get a PB2+ or a PC-Ultra, or a PB2-ISD.

I guess I'm used to hearing where the sound is coming from with current subs.
PSW 450's. When I added the second sub, it really made a difference in making the source of sound less distinguishable.
If one sub could accomplish this, I may be willing to step it up.

    I don't have the room for a PB2 or PB2-plus, (28" deep).
But I like the PB1-plus, I just wish it came in black. I wonder why they make the PB2-plus in black but not the PB1-plus.

Try e-mailing them, perhaps they can do one for you in black. They have excellent CS.

I talked to SVS about the whole custom color thing, they explained the whole process and why's and why nots.. They won't do it, it costs them more to change colors in current models that do or do not come a certain color.. They may offer colors in some models and black in others at a later date but not now..

The pb1 + is almost the same size as the pb2, so if the pb2 doesnt fit the pb1+ might not either.. However the smallest sub is the pb1-isd and its pretty compact somewhat.. Ive had it before and they come in black, tan, white, gray stone and gold.. they sound great and are a nice sub for the money and size.. I now have the pb2-isd and its double strenth pb1 but comes in black only.. The pb1+ does come in a black stain :)

    Faster,

I don't think it does come in a black stain, or perhaps they don't have it listed. I was suprised by this as well?

Black was dropped as a stain option. Too hard to get right and too few requests. A few black PB1+ and PB2U snuck out and will probably be rare collector's items years from now.
