How can I convince my fiance that

a new pair of speakers is better than getting a diamond ring?

Going down that path will eliminate the need for the ring for sure! :)

  • What do you want with a fiancé for anyway? I have been a widower for 10 years, I am never getting married again.

A ring, she's the only one who will be able to enjoy it, how selfish. Speakers, you both can as a couple or individually, not selfish.

Ring? A person must have priorities in life. Besides, she already put up with you this long, can anything really surprise her any more?

Let me tell you a little story. My EX wife and I were going to jewelry stores and dreaming about rings when we both knew that was the way were heading. At one of the stores, she said, "I REALLY LOVE THAT SET!" We'd go other places and look, but she always came back to that set. Being a college student, I couldn't just go in and buy the set so I set up a layaway program that she didn't know about and bought the set, she loved.

A couple of weeks went by and I found a pair of speakers that I fell in love with that cost MORE than the ring set, however, they worked out a deal so that I could have the speakers. We were married 13years and one of the last arguments we had was her telling me how I loved audio more than being married to her because I bought speakers that were more expensive than our wedding set.

Moral of the story: Keep the audio purchase as separate as possible from the engagement ring.

Why is it that the WOMAN has to get the engagement ring? Tell her if this is going to work, she had better buy you engagement speakers.

That's what I did. "They're in the mail" she says. 4 year shipping process apparently. I'm patient but have a strange feeling they're aren't coming...

From my perspective your left with 4 options:
1] Find a like minded girl that can appreciate the fact that you will derive more entertainment value from the spks,
2] Find a girl that is willing to accept a ring of imitation quality that she can pass it off as real to her family and friends so that the saving can be applied to the spk purchase
3] Find a girl that is happily content to please you irregardless to her wants or needs
4] If you cant find a girl that exhibits any of these qualities and you still have determined that she is the one for you-get the ring to make her happy by monetarily expressing your devotion to her! And concede to the knowledge that when the argument get intense and hard words get spoken that may result in her adopting a screw this mentality, that its always easier for her to carry the ring into the pawn shop!

    Very true statements!

If you think that I will forget that you put an audio system ahead of your so called love for me, you are dreaming.

I will most likely tell you to go marry your audio system instead.

Do both of you a favor and don't get married.

Very good Lightman! You saved some poor woman a lot of aggravation, and you saved yourself some money from avoiding divorce court! :)

BTW, you look a lot better without all the fuzz, and your eyes are very nice.
