Bowled my first 300!

My wife and I are on a league that bowls on Sundays. I never thought I would ever bowl a 300 but man, how sweet it felt! Of course, my next two games were 188 and 129, respectively, but I really didn't much care. I also learned that I get a 300 Ring from the USBC for the accomplishment along with an award. I'm in cloud 9 right now! Just wanted to share this news with my audio buds.

    ;) Nice going Bill, Congrats!!
I could never best the 279 I bowled decades ago.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

I would of needed a shotgun to bowl 300 and even then it would of been iffy. Nice job. How many beers did it take :p

"Hook for Wood" is there more to the name or is it a team full of pr0stitutes? How does one bowl a 300 and then drop to 129?! :D
Looks to me like you're a lane hustler!

I started hanging up in the ball during the second game and by the time I got it under control the lanes were completely broken down in the third game. I started putting it through the headpin. Of course, I was too stubborn to change balls. Dang.

Congrats!!! Have many bowlers in my family's past. Best I have done is 297 and that was in 1980. I haven't bowled much since. But I love to. Keep it up, great family fun.
  • Well done.

That's awesome! I was going to assume the later scores were because you were getting wasted from your 300 game, but seeing you don't drink....maybe you just suck at bowling...

    Totally awesome.

I love bowling but the only way I could hit 300 is to slam the ball into both of my feet and count the fractures on the X-rays.

I am a solid 175 bowler and have been for over 30 years. Sometimes better but not often worse.

Care to share any tips? I could make bank with tips from an expert.

I can't even teach myself, let alone somebody else! What helped me get to the next level was to become able to be relaxed on the approach. Let the ball dictate its own speed and be completely loose on the downswing. Don't turn the ball at release but keep my hand behind the ball until it sits in my fingertips then follow through forward and up. The bowling thumb should never go left of 12 o'clock, only up. And keep my eye on my target throughout the approach until after release and watch the ball roll over the target.

    Very nice. Keep it up.

I've been bowling now for 9 years and no mr 300 for me. My best is 279 a few times. Now my son bowled his first 300 at 12 years old. his first 800 @ 14. When he goes adult next year he will be on our Sunday night team. We have to pay for any more rings for him so he has his dozen to marvel at.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.
