Polk RT800 vs Monitor 70?
I currently have Monitor 70's in living room set up and was wondering if I purchased a set of Polk RT800's would it be an upgrade ? With the Monitors I have Marantz SR6001 and Parasound 2125 powering them. Thanks. D

Well the tweeter is better in the rt800s, more detailed than the m70. The bass is also tighter on the rt800, which I think is overall a little more refined sounding speaker. BUT u will lose a little bass extension and definitely lose some extension. Having twice as many drivers moves a lot more air...
It's really more of a lateral move, and probably isn't worth the trouble. I would say rt800s for music, m70s from for HT. I would use the former if I had a really good sub in the mix...Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

Can't say I've heard the RT800s but I have heard the tweeter in that series and I agree with RT59s assessment there. I run some M-70s as well. And with a good power amp, you really need to STEP up into a HIGHER category of speakers to get significant gains. That's why I've been so ambivalent about the new S60s till I hear them! Hoping they would not be a lateral move if I decided to commit to a Polk upgrade! Can't afford to go full LSi-M which would definitely be a REAL upgrade!Currently orbiting Bowie's Blackstar.!

The RT800's are a better sounding to me speaker then the M70'sDan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
I ended up buying The rt600i'a to see if they were netter than my m20's which is comparable to your situation. And I'd say the rt's are better sounding but possibly less bass.

I had the RT800's in the early 2000's. Thought they were a pretty good speaker. Back then I was more into HT so don't remember how they were for music.
