I'd like to propose an amendment to the For Sale (FS) Classifieds

IIRC, Polk members had to clearly state a price when posting a classified ad. I didn't see that in the rules section left behind by Patrick C.
With the advent of hifishark.com I'm getting emails and responses to my ads where prospective buyers see the lower price on the Club Polk site and they want to pay that rather than the non-Polkie discount.
I would suggest, that from here forward, members list the "public" price in their listings and have the CP member discount discussed in PM.
I know this is a hassle but, in the age of information, people now have access to our exclusive club here without being members.
Since we are stuck with Vanilla now, we cannot go back and edit the original posts, with the asking price clearly stated,in order to make any changes that we might take care of independently.
Maybe I'm way off here. I'd like to know what others have to say about it.
Thanks in advance and have a great holiday weekend!

@halo
I've been doing that with some items already because of that. I'd say just list the price your posting it for everywhere and if someone contacts you that you feels warrants the polkie discount, let em have it for that.
Another thing you could do is use different pictures and descriptions than your other ads. It takes more work on your end, but then they may not notice that its the same guy.
I know copy and paste is easier, than doing each one from scratch, but its another thought."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Halo - I think that's a great idea. Although, it would ultimately be up to the seller. I always offer things here lower than what I'd take on CL. This forum and the members have been great to me and it's the least I can do in return.

I am in 100% agreement with you. This is where I cut my audio teeth and I want to give back whenever possible. It's a P-I-T-A to get non-members asking for members only pricing when they haven't earned it. That's my $0.02Audio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro

Not sure how it would go over with the powers that be, but you could put a caveat that prices are for Active CP Members, with a minimum post count. It's easy enough to check new members that are just posting to get their count up.Home Theater/2 Channel:

That doesnt stop the price from being shown to folks just looking at the site with no account.
The only real way to do it would be to put in rules that any additional Polkie discount is up to the seller....

I guess I don't see the problem. Just list a price as being for members with 'X' number of posts. If someone else sees it via Google, or whatever, so what. Of course, if a good deal here goes untaken then, from a seller perspective, it is nice to have options.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

So, if the prospective buyers on other sites see my "polkie price" I lose something in the bargaining process because they can see what I'll take for it as opposed to what I want for it.Audio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro

So -- maybe a simple solution would be to post one's "MSRP" (street asking price) and add in the description something akin to "Veteran CP members: please PM for price information"?
I admit I may be underthinking this -- but that seems to me to be clear and yet opaque at the same time (i.e., for harvested listing information) Further, it seems to me that's no different than posting a price as "$**** OBO" [i.e., "or best offer"], which I assume is ok for selling stuff here(?).

IIRC, CP members were supposed to state a fixed price in their listings (obo was discouraged). This was before Vanilla took over and the rules don't seem to be as clearly defined as they once were.
I like the underthinking part. Even when I post a "CP" member only price, people will still try to negotiate so there may be no point in in anymore?Audio: Polk S15 * Polk S35 * Polk S10 * SVS SB-1000 Pro

Not a bad idea actually -- I think that's how the Silicon Valley housing market started
