Speaker Stands

Has anyone ever tried speaker stands with Floorstanding / Tower loudspeakers?

Some of the higher end speakers out there are quite tall. I'm also pretty tall when sitting and listening, definitely taller than the height of the tweeters.

Aside from stands, what about tilting or adjusting the rake of the speakers?

I'm curious to know what other members have done to get the teeters of their towers at eat level and if there's a difference in sound quality.

Will there be any tradeoffs in doing this?

Thanks in advance!

For towers, tilting can be a bit... fraught (as they say nowadays... as in "fraught with terror"), but there can still be some value in decoupling from the floor (yeah, yeah there are other ways to do that, of course) and in some cases, raising the MR/treble drivers to ear level.

Here's a quick & dirty example with a pair of Mirage L-750s. I refoamed the woofers on these for the fellow who built our house :) I tried them on (EDIT) a pair of commercial stands that were sitting around. It fixed a certain bass-heaviness... but looked terrifying, so I cut up a couple pieces of pine board to make some experimental stands, which worked OK (fit for purpose).

    EDIT: I guess I don't have a photo of 'em on the low-riser stands I made :(

FWIW, I stick pretty much everything on stands when I audition loudspeakers...

No stands for these, but they're designed to put the drivers at ear level. They are standing on some hockey pucks, tho'.

Read up on the masters set up process. Tilting is the last step in the set up.

I saw a video on it. Very interesting. Not an equilateral triangle between the main speakers & the listening position

Eliminating toe-in would probbaly render similar results.

    Hi Steve.

Similar results as placing them on stands or something else? I don't have them toed in.

Toe in will affect the frequency response as you get more off axis. Tilting will have similar results but to a much lesser degree. Tilting will also align the tweeter and woofer a bit better if done correctly.

    Thanks Skip :)
