I think I found the most musical sub I've ever heard!

I have a problem. I'm an impulse buyer, and when there's a deal to be had I jump on it like its my girlfriend. Picked up a new in box JL Audio E110 for 50% off msrp. Drove an hour and a half to Pick it up, met a fellow audio nut who clearly has a bigger problem than I do, he had usher mini dancer 2 dmd, focal electras 1038's, and some Von Schweirkert bookies (they were massive!) in the closet! Got to listen to a very incredible pair of pioneer S3 EX Tad designed speakers, a bunch of bryston gear and maybe made a new friend. The guy kept offering me Booz, but I had to drive..
Anyway brought it home, set it up. It is an incredibly heavy little cube, with a fantastic fit and finish. Plunked it in the sweet spot for my sub and took it for a test drive. All I can say is this little thing is a beast, a complete power house, 2.5 inches of excursion, tight powerful bass, I'm blown away. It absolutely destroys my SVS SB 1000's (although triple the msrp). Not sure I would buy one full price. But for what I stole it for, it's a bargain.
Trying to decide between a used Bryston 14bsst2 or the new 4bsst3, for my amp upgrade, but I'm pretty sure I will be grabbing an svs sb 13 ultra and see how they stack up. Same price point right? Been about 3 years since my sb ultras, can't even remember what they sound like. I do remember incredible mid bass slam on them.

I can say I haven't experienced smearing before, but I think I did with the svs subs in the mix. This JL seems to be a little more refined/accurate, as I started noticing details in the music that I havent heard before, I found the svs subs were becoming boomy with some content, this thing truely disappears, and has some major slam/power.
Yeah I opened the box wrong. That's what happens at 1130 at night.2 channel:

I picked up this shag rug at super store up here in Canada. Absolutely everyone who comes in the room or sees a picture of it points out the rug. It's Great for room treatment at an affordable price of 20$ Canadian bucks!

Damn you Mikey, I was within an eyelash of ordering a pair of SVS subs, now look what you've gone and done
N'joy! -
I've always enjoyed JL Audio stuff. I don't think I knew they home audio.
Sounds impressive, Mike, thanks for posting up.
I'm only just now starting to pay closer attention sub refinement after working up the little home office system.
Fantastic deal you scored there, would love to hear what this sounds like, gotta love deep, tight, precise bass. Once you start to get a taste for quality bass, it begins to become apparent what the loose, sloppy, slow, and boomy descriptors actually mean.I disabled signatures. -
I love my svs subs and are excellent cost for performance ratio. Not sure I can justify JL for the price, although they sound so good! Would love to hear a fathom, and some are popping up used for a great price. The msrp on the E110 is 1500usd plus another 200$ for the premium finish.. Really?
Will say this little ten inch beast is besting two SB 1000's. I was up till 230AM last night, rifling through CDs and some lossless goodness. This little beast is 52lbs and is walking along the hardwood in my basement, the bass can be felt in the couch, on a cement slab! Ordered up an auralex subdude for the walking issue.
I'm thrilled can ya tell? I was nervous this was going to be a lateral move or a down grade.2 channel:

Good point F1, the finish is top notch, and built in the USA, so even better. Slapped a Pangea power cord on this thing and I swear I heard a difference. Had a Pangea ac14 with a c7 connector, and this only accepts a iec. Soooo chopped the ends off and installed some sonarquest plugs I had lying around. What a pain it was stripping all those little wires, 21 total per side.2 channel:

We carry them and they are incredible. Musical they take just a bit of tuning to get right but once you get it there, they are one of the best hands down subs on the market. I have considered getting a pair of these myself.Dan

Highly recommended. Did take more time to get fully dialed in, spent about 12 hours with it, and have it perfect as of last night.
Had my older audiophile buddy over last night who is very anti-sub and even he liked what it did for my system.2 channel:

Hey man, I'd definitely recommend an older 14B over a newer 4B. Even a 14B-ST, non squared, should smoke a new 4B cubed. I'll look for the link when I get home, but the power to distortion graph on the 14B-ST is frickin ridiculous. Like, 0.00's until over 400WPC. Been gone for a while... what speakers you using?2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

See image attached. It obviously likes low ohm loads... but pretty ridiculous for 8 ohm as well. On a 4 ohm load, it stays below 0.01% TND until about 800 WPC.
"Finally, fig.7 plots the percentage of THD+N against continuous output power with both channels driven into 8 and 4 ohms and one channel driven into 2 ohms. Despite its 600W, 27.8dBW specification, the 14B-SST delivered no less than 690W into 8 ohms (28.4dBW) at the 1% THD point we define as clipping. The clip point into 4 ohms was just over a kilowatt (27dBW), but the amplifier was running out of grunt into 2 ohms, with 720W available at clipping (22.6dBW)."

I'm using focal Electra 1028 be 2. I'm able to get my hands on a 14bsst with warranty until 2024 and has the Swedish choke upgrade performed by bryston. Waiting for the guy to message me back with pictures.

It's an absolute beast. Do you have experience with the 14b? It is seriously over kill for my fairly efficient electras. I demoed my speakers in the store with 1000watt mono blocks In a very large room and they absolutely killed it in there. The bass was incredible on these towers.2 channel:

I have not used a 14B, but I have used a 4B, 5B, and 9B extensively, and the 14 is on my short list of main 2-channel system amps. Given the efficiency of the Electras, you would never even get close to taxing that amp... which is what you want.
