I will probably end up with the new Polk replacements but its gonna be awhile before I can buy them. I have seen conflicting reports on switching older models, with some folks claiming Peerless = 1000 = 2000. I doubt that, but would love to be proved wrong. It could be for particular models only though like the RTA12 mentioned above.

IIRC I thought that the SL1000 was Polk's attempt to make a tweeter like the peerless but with a newer diaphragm material. The plus side was it would already fit the boxes they made to fit peerless so there was not any retooling needed for the cabinets. I believe that the peerless tooling used to make the tweeters had already been toast for sometime. Peerless tweeters came in two flavors Danish and American. American was the last made. Another member did extensive research on the Peerless Tweeter's.

Since the experts have not chimed in, to the best of my knowledge the crossover components are different between the peerless and SL1000 tweeters. I do know they have the same mounting dimensions. They are physically interchangeable, but likely not electronically or sonically. I vaguely recall seeing posts that the crossovers for SL1000 and SL2000 could be interchanged for some speakers. The mounting dimensions however are different so they are not physically interchangeable.

correct the peerless are NOT interchangeable the XO's are different for the peerless. SL1000 and SL2000 are interchangeable except the SL2000 is a bigger face plate and the cut outs are different between SL1000 & 2000. To stick a SL2000 in a SL1000 hole you need to rasp out a bit of material where the leads attach to the tweeter and the face plate hole needs to be a tiny bit larger

^^ Am I the only one that found @F1nut 's last post funny?

HzTweaker, I think this entire thread is funny.

Peerless tweeters cannot be swapped around with any other tweeter Polk used except, IIRC, on the RTA-12B and C's which have the same crossovers regardless of tweeter. The Peerless tweeters absolutely crush the SL1000 and SL2000's, you will find that out in short order.

Prediction verified. I dont hate the SL1000's, but they definitely becoming taxing over time and with considerable volume. I havent seen too many anecdotes re: replacing the SL1000 specifically in the earliest SDA CRS models unfortunately, but I am hoping the RDO194 will be a great match for them.

So I used some power grab today, one thing for sure is it's easy to use, and looks like a clean job when done..
