New York!!!

Just spent the last 11 days in NY, my son lives out there these days, and I finally got a chance to visit him, him living out there made it a lot easier to get around and see a lot of cool things, not just the standard tourists spots..
Montauk on the far end of Long Isand was beautiful,
Storm King was awesome,
Cloisters was awesome as well,
Statute Of Liberty
Ground Zero/World Trade Center
Empire State Building
Central Park
Times Square
And many other things...
My son lives in Brooklyn, and all the food places out there are incredible, as well as all the little coffee shops, I already miss them, the pizza, lobster rolls from Red Hook, OMG I love em!! Went to a Cuban restaurant name slips my mind right now was top shelf, too many to list, but I was floored by the quality of food everywhere we went, we don't have that where I live, all your standard restaurants for the most part, unless you want to drive towards Denver, and I still don't think they can compare...
Ha, and every time we jumped on the subway I thought about The Warriors LOL!!
Great time but I'm glad to be back home, but now I got some yard work to get caught up on...

man, what a fantastic trip!
Same here - not a whole lot of authentic food places.
I laughed when I read the bit about The Warriors
One of my all-time favorite films and my brother and I still make references to it. Always liked the music from one of my fave scenes - the Baseball Furies...

All grocery stores have a "blended food" section in FL. Gotta be pizza in a pouch somewhere down there!Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!! -
The Pizza is fantastic, it will be hard to eat it here after NY..
Paulie Gee's in Greenpoint is awesome..
I recommend the Hellboy...

Glad you had a great time. Some great, historic sites. Red Hook, some of the best Italian food outside of Little Italy. About the only things I miss about NYC are the food (Peter Luger's especially), and the ability to grocery shop at 2 or 3am. LI, great beaches on the South shore. Lived and worked there for 18 years. Nice to visit, but no way I'd ever live there again.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Well down, Larry.
It sounds like an ideal visit to the Big Apple.

Glad you enjoyed time with your son. Have to agree-i have memories of the food in the city. Back in the late 80's early 90's i use to hauled into the Fulton Fish Market 3-4 times a week with fresh lobster & fish from the Portland Me Fish Exchange & i was able to go alot of restaurants & bars at any time of the night. Tried alot of dish's you cant find anywhere but NY. Seafood cooked right & stuff a fisherman never tried. The food was excellent. Sure do miss the variety & when it comes to sandwiches you cant compete..

Hard to beat NY for food, Boston, Chicago, San Fran also great. That's where it ends for me. Big cities are nice to visit, but then get me outta there.HT SYSTEM-

All this talk about good food... now I'm hungry again. But, what else is new!
NYC is an awesome place to visit. So much to do and see (and eat), and the atmosphere is just so "New York". Sounds like you had a great visit. -
Manhattan is something "other". I spent about a dozen years living there except for a year or two in China. But I was younger then! Now, I'm probably with Tony. It's great to visit, but retire in NYC? I spent 2010 in Beijing, and I was already in my 50s. Survived that except for the damage done to my lungs from it's fresh air, On the other hand, I don't think I'd put myself out to N.H. pasture either (and Florida is a Sweat lodge half of the year, yuck!), my wife would NEVER permit something like that. She's a city girl who grew up in one of China's biggest cities, the Chicago of China, this makes retirement a more formidable enterprise, for us, we can't just go cheap or simply escape all taxes. lol.
Sounds like you had a great time, Larry! I still love to give tours of the city to friends and relatives when the opportunities present themselves. So much to do, and the food, although there aren't many grade A Greek restaurants left on the Manhattan side, you really do have to get to Astoria. But little India, Korea-town, and some great Chinese seafood in Chinatown, let's not forget Little Italy, Tony! Phenomenal stuff. And yes I like Deep Dish. But as a token New Yorker, well you know, we love the "slice"! And some of the very BEST slices, both traditional and Sicilian can be found in the City.
On another note; I've been in a funk for quite a while, and I STILL am. So I'm not here much, Actually I'm usually just getting UP at this time. Been writing and writing, trying to keep my writing OFF the forums and into publication. A little something for everyone, hopefully. An academic book, and a work or two of fiction. We'll see how this year turns out! See you boys around! And for you retired folks, enjoy it!

If we're talking retirement, I could never do big city living, and besides, who can afford it anyway. Hard enough when your in the working years let alone when your not.
I'll take a beach or mountain view any day. Something peaceful....after a life long amount of stress and go go go, not what I envision to continue for myself as retirement nears. That is of course, unless you don't mind kicking the bucket early.HT SYSTEM-

My country bumpkin arse made the near death decision to drive around Manhattan one day. Shaved about five good years off my life.
No Thanks! Never again! -

I drove all over the city, and the other four boroughs everyday as a project manager.
You have to drive offensively, otherwise they'll eat you alive.
