Can't stress enough how important OE plugs and coil packs are for vw and Audi. I see this STI junk brand on them all the time and cost about 8$ less than OE.
Yep, it's not cheap but I just replaced the original Bosch plugs in my '09 GTi at 75,000 miles. For peace of mind I put new OE coil packs in too. The plugs were very worn, but she still ran well. It runs better with fresh, properly gapped plugs for sure.
OE from an aftermarket supplier for (4) Bosch plugs and (4) Bosch coil packs was not cheap............$120 for coil packs and $55 for plugs.

That's not too bad to be honest. The dsg service is a killer but worth it, those trannies are super expensive. Worked for vw for many years, they are pretty good with their warranty, if you have proof of service anywhere else, they will honor all warranties. I payed the extra for extended warranty on my golf R, and I'm good for another 3 years up to 140,000km's. Only problem in the time I've had it, is a leaky AC condensor. Not too shabby.2 channel:

Already knew this site offered more than just audio knowledge but dang, I enjoyed the read. Now I know where to bring my auto not just audio problems. Thanks to all.

Thanks appreciate the insight. I bet the R is a blast to drive!! I have a great VW mechanic that has worked on all my Volkswagen's for the past 20 years or so. I will just have him do the DSG service. I just didn't want any issues with VW because the last service wasn't done at the dealer.
The only issue I've had with the 2009 GTi is a known issue, which they issued a service bulletin on. The wiring harness that goes to the throttle body was manufactured to short. Over time (on some cars) the natural engine movement can stress the harness and cause a wire to break or become extremely worn causing all kinds of intermittent running issues.
It was a PITA because it was intermittent. Had it in 3-4 times while still under the 60K drive train warranty. They could never nail it down until finally at 65K they "thought" that's what it could be. But they couldn't guarantee that would fix it. After a long few phone calls to VW HQ, they did the repair (splicing and extending the wiring harness) under warranty. Not a fun or cheap job. Never an issue since. It was 1 of 3 guesses they had which was causing the issue.
I have the VAG tool and program and would always put a printout of fault codes and leave them on the front seat as well as the service bulletin from VW. I'm sure they loved that, but I wanted them to know I knew what I was talking about and not just some schmuck.
There were a myriad of issues getting service, our local dealer is the WORST, but in the end I didn't pay anything beyond the original (1st) service diagnosis. I think they were glad to see me gone as I was a constant thorn in their side because they just wouldn't give me a concrete answer so I kept pushing.

P.s. This is only the 2nd time I've gone to our local VW dealer for an issue (in 20+ years owning VW's). But it was warranty work. Otherwise my mechanic is awesome
