So now that I have them safely at the home base, what should be my next investment cross over upgrades or a new source. I currently have a Yamaha AV34, 100 watts at 8 ohms in 2 channels. Not a high end Yammy by any means but did the job for my monitor 5s.Just a dude doing dude-ly things

+1 on tweeters but I'd buy the better tweeters (198's) and do the TL mod. It's one resistor added to each crossover. If it's in the budget, I'd upgrade the crossover's at the same time.

I would like Vmax suggests and listen to for awhile and enjoy. My next priority would to get a better source. Those are 6 ohm speakers and can dig pretty deep. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

Yeah the Yammy states nothing lower than 6 ohm speakers. I have to get placement right, have them about 9 inch from back wall, 5 feet from side walls and about 4 feet from each other. The only issue? My bed is 3-4 feet in front of the right channel sub driver.
Will put on Buddy Miles "Down by the river" whenever I get home. Maybe some Floyd as well. FINALLY I have a pair of SDAs after falling in love with a pair of SDA SRS 2s my uncle had years ago.Just a dude doing dude-ly things

Yup, the original interconnect was included! The guy was moving LITERALLY in two hours once I got there. They almost got left at the rental house to go to who knows. I'm telling you it was meant to be.
First it's pay day, secondly I got a new roomie so the money I am saving on rent was just enough to cover these (and give the GF money for the weekend), thirdly my boss is a gear head and actually allowed me to get out of work to go pick them up.Just a dude doing dude-ly things

Thanks westmassguy. It's been a long day .... and a long time since I TL'd.
Fwiw, the price of 2 caps won't change the total cost much and then you won't end up buying both like I did. Either way, you won't find anything that comes close for what you have in them. Cody dude ,good for you. By the time I saw this the ad was down but from what the guys are saying they are 2B studios. $100 depending on condition and all is working is an exceedingly good price. My ''87 2Bs w/ oak tops were an amazing $50 from a desperate housewife downsizing sale. As you will hear and it took me months to wrap my head around doing mods because I thought I had the best stock 2Bs that were in a 20 year coma that I woke them from. Of course I was hammered and rightly so, the mods are really worth the effort and the cash. Space them 6 to 8 feet apart instead of right next to the console, then move them back closer to the wall.Political Correctness'.........defined

I second what @F1nut said. When I was flanking a large entertainment center with 2A's I had my best results spacing the speakers further apart. If you have to make compromises anyway then go for the wider soundstage and bass response.
-
Headed your advice @F1nut and your reassurance @littlewoodboats. Moved some stuff around in the room, the 2bs are about 8-9 ft apart. 2 ft from side walls and 6 inches from back wall. Soundstage opened up tremendously! Definitely need to replace the tweeters and most likely will modify the cross overs for the TL mod.Just a dude doing dude-ly things

codycatalist wrote: »Definitely need to replace the tweeters and most likely will modify the cross overs for the TL mod.
I don't think you're quite following what is being said here. Let me see if I can clarify it a bit:
Your SDA-2Bs have SL-2000 tweeters in them currently. If you want to upgrade these tweeters, the drop-in replacements from Polk are the RD0194-1 tweeters. However, if you want to do the TL Mod/Upgrade, you will need the RD0198-1 tweeters from Polk. Now, you need to understand that the RD0198-1 tweeter is NOT a drop-in replacement for the SL-2000 or the RD0194-1. Yes, it's the same size and fits the same mounting hole, but it needs to be run with a different crossover (ie. the TL-Mod crossover)
Therefore, you need to decide if you're going for the whole enchilada (198's and TL-Mod components) or not before you order any parts. Or........you could also go ahead and replace the 2000's with 194's and at a later date, update the crossovers (standard, non-TL Mod.) with upgraded (same value) caps/resistors/inductors(?), etc., just NOT the TL-Mod components.
Hope I didn't muddy things up for you, codycatalist! Good luck, nice grab on the SDAs!
