The Revenant - Stevie's extremely simple movie reviews

Picked this up on BR last week. While a good movie, the story line is very plain vanilla; this isn't to say it's not exciting---it is, but usually "academy award" movies are far more complex and emotion inspiring. I kept waiting for the "twist" moment that would add some spice to the story--it never came. Cinematography is incredible, as are special effects.

I give it 4 out 5 stars (Definite Rent/Possible Buy)

I thought about the same. Only reason Leo won an award is a lack luster group of nominations.

I watched it this weekend and thought it was pretty decent. I think I am really burnt out on the blockbuster special effect laden type movie.

Technically well done, but I wasn't interested in the story or the characters.

Watched this one on the plane last week. For me it was a bit of "Dances With Wolves" meets "Gladiator".
I enjoyed it but was also waiting for "that" scene which never came.

I thought Tom Hardy was the star of the film... All Leo did was lay around and grunt and groan for most of the movie.

    I liked Bone Tomahawk better.

I liked the true story of Hugh Glass better.
He was attacked by a bear...he was left for dead...he did crawl/stumble ~200 miles back to Ft. Kiowa...but he never killed Fitzgerald. He did find him at Ft. Atkinson in Nebraska and wanted to kill him but would have been then killed by the Army for the deed. He grudgingly accepted his stolen Hawken rifle back from Fitzgerald but threatened FItzgerald to never leave the Army or he would kill him.

Has anyone done the book? I've been recommended it and I'm looking to pick up a new read.
