Well I never did think it made a whole lot of sense for the courts to get involved like they did last year. It was opening the door for every player to do the same. When Brady signed his NFL contract he agreed to obey the rulings of the commissioner and the collective bargaining process for better or worse.
A lot of other players have been suspended without being criminally-charged or enough evidence to convict them in a court of law. Everyone know Brady was aware of the underinflated footballs though. He's a pro. He got caught, now take the suspension and put it behind.
The Patriots also lose their first round draft pick this year from this incident. -
How dare they do that to the best QB ever.

Wooo Patriots!
$235K loss for 4 games. Way to do a contract negotiation before the trial. That'll hurt Brady's wallet......Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!! -
I heard that his restructure put almost everything into a bonus, so his salary for this season will only be $1,000,000. If the suspension holds up, he saved a BUNCH of money.

Because they are smart.....just not smart enough to not get caught.
Every team does it's own type of cheating and to believe otherwise is naive.
It's just the Pats are knuckleheads. Plain and simple...Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!! -
Okay not too much of a sports fan admittedly, but this whole he's in/he's out/he's in/he's out is just ridiculous.
At this point he should just take the bloody suspension and keep it moving. -

Didn't he win some Green Cups while playing for the Saskatoon Berries in the Canadian Almost Football League? -
Really don't understand this at all. This should never have gone to a court in the first place, let alone an appellate court. Waste of time and money.
NFL determined that cheating occurred, punishment issued, should have been the end of the story.
Personally I think the NFL should fine Brady more, additionally fine the Pats, and take away about 5 years worth of first and 3 years of second round draft picks.
There was absolutely no reason for this to have gone beyond the NFL's decision. This crap where people think there special "just because" is totally out of control.
Personally I think Brady at least thought the balls were a little soft, but since as far as he knew the officials cleared them, didn't bring it to their attention. I also think the NFL thought along these lines.
The NFL, unfairly or not to Brady, had to make a statement. The integrity of the game must be maintained, and those best able to ensure that integrity is the NFL itself.
Just for the record, I grew up in Steeler country. I think Ben should have been kicked out of the league when he ran his motorcycle into the car. I think that was about year 2.
I guess I'm just old fashioned enough to think people should take responsibility for their own actions. Really don't understand why that concept is lost in today's world. -
Integrity of the NFL game is an oxymoron. This should have never gone to court because Brady should never have been suspended.
http://theaosn.com/2016/02/10/integrity-of-the-shield-is-goodell-just-empty-rhetoric/
Using selective facts and ignoring the essential truths of the whole matter, the majority decision upheld the NFL's right to act foolish and impose an unreasonable penalty on its greatest player. This selective use of facts shows how our court system is indeed imperfect and can lead to inconsistent and ridiculous results.

That's called life X, is Brady somehow excluded from what everyone else goes thru on a daily basis in their own professions ? Life isn't fair at times, deal with it.
Integrity of the NFL ? What about Brady's integrity...the Pats organization ? Are they not a Franchise ? Beholden to the NFL's rules/regulations and punishment regardless if they act squirrelly ? Even if Brady was considered the greatest player, how does that equate to equality ? Should he be given special privileges ? Special consideration in punishment ?
This all should have been handled within the NFL, and from where I sit the lack of integrity sits with the Pats organization.HT SYSTEM-

Obviously you never played football. If you were to underinflate the ball to the lower end of the allowed tolerance (or in this case below the limit) just about anyone who has ever handled a football would be able to tell it was on the low side if they picked the ball up. I know I would be able to tell and therefore a pro like Tom Brady who handles one for a living definitely could tell. For him to say otherwise is ridiculous. Sort of like these pro ball players saying they don't know how the performance-enhancing drugs got into their systems when they fail the drug tests.... and they all deny cheating! Every one of them.
A defensive player for the other team (I think it was a lineman) who doesn't normally handle the ball picked the Patriot game ball up after a play and noticed it was underinflated and showed it to the referees. Every offensive player who touched the balls on the Patriots knew they were intentionally on the low side of the tolerance if not below the limit.
It has nothing to do with whether someone likes Tom Brady and the Patriots or not. I actually like Brady as a quarterback and said so earlier in this thread. He got caught cheating though and needs to live up to it, take the punishment, and move on. He probably did the best strategic move by appealing it last year. They made it all the way to the playoffs. This year they lose their 1st round draft pick and their chances aren't as good so it probably was a smart move to fight the suspension and delay it by a year.
The NFL should actually tack-on an additional week or two though to discourage this type of legal-wrangling in the future for cases like this. The players have their union and the arbitrators to make sure any wrongly-accused get off. That process didn't work out in Brady's favor which is why he decided to take the unprecedented move of taking it to court. Now the court has sided against him too. There should be some additional penalty for taking it that far.

The NFL feels he is guilty. The appellate judge also feels he is guilty. Anyone who has any amount of objectivity knows he is guilty. For Brady to play dumb and say he didn't know the balls were underinflated is an insult of intelligence. Sort of like someone sawing Tiger Woods' golf clubs in half and him then claiming he didn't notice they were shorter.
The punishment was pretty-light really. Brady and the Patriots were caught violating NFL rules in a post-season game. If a baseball player gets caught with a corked bat or a pitcher gets caught with a foreign substance on the ball during the playoffs the chances are that they won't be playing in the World Series. Just look at the substance abuse policy which is also considered cheating. If you get caught the first time you are suspended half the season.
In all litigation there has to be some amount of risk involved. If not, then it opens the door for endless frivolous lawsuits and legal challenges. If someone chooses to take something like this to court instead of accepting the punishment handed down by the league, they better be prepared to get hit even harder if the court then sides against them like it did in this case against Brady.
And you may be "thankful" that I am not a judge in this case but you know what?
The appellate judge agrees with me. That's why Brady lost. So what's to be thankful about? The result would have been the same if I were the judge.
lol -
Drunk on power ? Even if that were true....so what. It's his league the Pats and Brady play in isn't it ?
That's like saying McDonalds corporate is bad for imposing rules/regulations on it's franchisee's. The Pats are a franchise in a bigger company, they can always take their deflated balls and move to another company.
It's also my understanding, the crux of the matter with the penalty was from Brady destroying evidence, as in his cell phone. If he was so innocent, he wouldn't have needed to do that.Post edited by [Deleted User] onHT SYSTEM-

My personal feeling is he was let off easy. Brady may not have been behind the plan or been the one to actually deflate the balls but he knew. Brady knew the balls were not right at the first snap. I played defense at University of Nebraska and still did enough ball handling drills to notice right away if anything was amiss about the ball.
What surprises me is the official spotting the ball did not notice.
