Glad to hear it worked out. Could be they had enough complaints before but needed one more to justify firing him. If they allow his abuse to continue, they open themselves up to a lawsuit, but if they fire him without enough cause, that could end up the same way.

What red flag? This happens all the time at food and drinking establishments.

Not at mine it doesn't. It's why I don't have lots of unaccounted for liquor. It's unprofessional...and I don't condone/allow it. If you treat people as professionals, insist that they conduct themselves as such....they tend to start acting like it. Bottom line is you get the behavior you tolerate.

You guys want a summary of my job life since the beginning of last winter? Here you go. I don't want to speak badly of any of these places so I will just use A, B, C, etc.

I worked at job A for 5 years. This last winter they decided to close because it was costing more to stay open during these months than was being brought in.

Then I found job B. Worked there for somewhere around 3 months when they decided they were going to close for 2 months to remodel and open under a new name.

Then I found job C. Worked there for one month, was offered kitchen management position, only to find out that the owners were trying to sell and were going to shut the doors in a short time if they couldn't sell. So, I quit.

Then i started back at job B which opened under a new name. Three days after being open the head chef and the owner had some type of issue, the head chef quit. After he quit the ENTIRE kitchen staff aside from 2 people (me being one) also quit. I worked open to close everyday for a week - last week - just so that kitchen could keep putting food out. Now (just found this out today) this job is closing back down for another two weeks due to a liquor license issue.

Then I found job ?? <--- This is where I sit right now. I talked to job A and they would happily take me back. In 5 years there I only requested 2 days off, never called in sick, and very rarely late (as in more than a couple of minutes).

I can't tell you guys how old this is getting. I have been skating by this past little while, you have no idea how close. Last month my "rent" check (I use every other check for rent and every other for other bills such as insurance, dog food, etc.) was only $22 more than my rent because I have been getting a lot of 1 week checks from this or that job during all of this. This boat really will stop rocking at some point, right? Just bad luck? I'm not scared of work, that's for sure. I'll do 60-80 hour work weeks between two jobs, fine by me. If I can find two jobs to stay open long enough to do that, anyway.

    Nightfall,

Sorry to hear about that Kitchen manager job not working out. What city do you live in anyway ?

The food industry is always feast or famine. Been down that road too myself when it became obvious no matter how hard you worked you were only going to make X amount of money. Unless you own your own joint, which I did too, and made even less money in the end.

You might want to give some thought to changing professions, one that rewards the time and loyalty put in. They say the average person switches professions 3 times in a working life time. Here's mine so far....

1- Food industry- including owning my own joint.
    2- Real estate broker
3-Stunt man- yes. Tony used to do stunts for movies.
    4 - Currency trader
    5- Construction industry

    6- still looking for another...

It's not uncommon my friend to go outside your knowledge base and learn something new.

I grew up around the food industry. I learned quick that I wanted nothing to do with it. To much famine and not enough feast.

    You're in Colorado right?
    You're a chef right?
There has to be a HUGE market for "medicinal" edibles in your nape of the woods. Start whipping up recipes that not only taste good, but after eating will give you the munchies...

That huge market is already saturated, requires an eff load of paperwork and waiting, potency has to be tested and regulated, lots of start up capital...
