She is a '92 model with about 400 hours on the original drive line. Tons of fun, holds 10 riders easily and runs over 50 MPH when trimmed up on smooth lake, but the best part is that she has been paid for since I bought her 10 summers ago. A boat payment in mid winter throws a lot of shade on boat ownership.

I'd never let a horse on my boat...

.....or a woman who sports a Colt 45.....holes and boats don't mix. ;)

But hoes and boats DO mix...

Amen to that. I love boats....bikes too, but given I live in sheet-cago and boating season is so short, the costs don't reflect the enjoyment. Same with bikes, pools.....why the eff to I live here again ?

I ended up in S Az via US Army. Got stationed at Ft. Huachuca (1989) and fell in love with the place. Did a 2yr stint in Turkey (1992-94) after Desert Storm, and came right back to Huachuca.

I was into boating for a number of years. I really enjoyed being on the lake. Had a house on Lake Texoma and went thru a number of boats. Spent most every weekend doing something around the lake if not on the water.

I changed my boating habits after seeing a really bad accident during a poker run when 3 people lost their lives. Then moved into a pontoon for a few years. Now I don't have a boat and invest the funds into my audio system but look at pictures from time to time of the boat.

This is a picture of the boat I owned and was driving during that poker run. It was great fun but to risky for my taste.

You guys have some great looking boats and this is my humble little ride. We have a secluded river right down the street and this little 15' 40hp seems to be right at home on it. My absolute favorite hot weather pastime is slowly cruising that river with a cooler full of food and drink.

I know boating can be very dangerous. In 1968 my brother fell out of our boat and the prop split is head open. This happened at a remote location hours away from a hospital. My mom rode with him in the State patrol vehicle to the hospital and can't imagine what she went through. I've never asked. They put steel plate in his head and he spent 6 months in the hospital. The doctors said it was a miracle he survived and he's still blessed today.

Just thought I would share hoping this will make those more cautious while on the water.

By the way, what is a poker run?

A poker run is where you go from location to location picking up a card. After stopping at 5 locations you use all your cards to make a poker hand. The highest hand wins cash and/or prizes. It is not a race but an adventure to drive the lake and get the cards. But put all the boats together without speed limits, some having 1000+ hp and it gets pretty wild.

When I was in the poker run I described above the boats that collided were running in excess of 100 mph. My boat would not even get close to 100, more like 70 but after a couple of close calls I got out.

NICE boat. That's the type/size boat I'd like; OR a pontoon floating party wagon. LOL

    Congrats!

Just remember Fish can't swim that fast so no need to troll the lake at 50mph like most do in Kansas.

I agree Russ, but C'mon man, don't tell me you can't make that picnic table boat for like 12.50. Well, not including the umbrella, cost more than the boat. Pretty frickin' sweet.

The amount of activities that you do with your grandson is unfathomable!
You, my friend, have set the bar and i applaud you.

All i can add to this thread is growing up, my father had a 16' Lund, 20hp motor that we used to drop in local lakes and when we got adventurous we went to the Quabbin or the bay side of Cape Cod. He's been on the hunt for a 25-27' Grady White in his price range for years to use out on the ocean side of the Cape.

A boat is a hole in the water that dump money into...

LOL, yep...money pit it is....but an enjoyable one if you can afford it. Cheaper to rent one for the day, least up here in the 3-4 month span of boating season available. Only time I'd even think about owning one is if I lived right on a lake or ocean.

I have friends with boats, they don't live on the water and use their boats maybe 3-4 times per season. That's a heck of a nut if you calculate the cost and upkeep/storage, what they are actually spending per use.

However, you'd be hard pressed to find a better stress reliever than being in a boat on the open water.

Although I agree that boat ownership can potentially be expensive, I can't say I've had any major unplanned expenses with bass boats at all. Maintenance is easy, electrical typically isn't too bad... Most problems can be fixed by an amateur with just a little bit of research. Hull damage or something like that.. Well that's for the insurance company.

Now, upgrading props and electronics, buying newer and better gear, lures, etc... Along with the best deep cycle batteries, LED lighting, aftermarket seats.. It can get expensive. Similar to the audio hobby.

Getting ready to drop $550 bucks in accessories to my new boat. I live right next to a boat access so it is super nice. I agree it is very peaceful on the water.
