More Power Cords

Been stepping up my game lately & am looking to replace the stock cables on my source gear & preamp. Power amps are already done. I have my sights set on the Pangea AC14. First, what are the differences between the original, Se, & SeMkII? Second, how flexible are they? Can I replace a 1.5m stock cord with the same length if the original was just right? Third, what else should at be looking at in the same ballpark price wise?

The gear: Pioneer Sc1523K, Parasound P5, Pioneer N-50, Denon DBT1713ud. Not using the internal amps on the Pioneer.

I replaced all my Pangea AC14MKII with PS Audio AC-3 cords. I am not sure the difference between the ac14 and the AC14MKII. The Pangea are flexible enough, but the PS Audio are real flexible. I think the AC-3 are still on sale @ Music Direct.

the difference between the Pangea MK1 and MK2 are they lost their Japanese copper supplier and then went and made a deal with Cardas to buy high end copper from him.

So after careful consideration, I haven't bought a damn thing yet. There's been some big changes in my system the last few weeks (LsiM 705s, Parasound P5) & I wanted to give things time to break-in & for me to get acclimated to the new sound. I've pretty much ruled out the Pangea & am focused on the Shunyata Venom 3 & PS Audio AC-3. Going to start with changing the cord on the Parasound P5. Which one? Somebody push me off the fence.

I had both but at different times. I like the looks and feel of the PS audio the best and can't compare the sounds as my system has changed too much since then.

Music Direct has the AC-3 for $90, though they are "On Order" at the moment. I think there is a used Venom 3 still available for a similar price. Wire World is on my list if the price is in the same ballpark. I'd have a tough time swallowing more than $150 for a 1.5m PC.

    1.5 meter Stratus 7 is $105
    1 meter Aurora 7 is $140

I have a Pangea AC-14 on my tube preamp and it has put me off them a bit. It's not flexible enough, I can't imagine what the AC-9 is like trying to bend.

I'm going to throw out that I won the karma that Skip put out for WireWorld. I ended up getting a Electra power cord 2.0m long, that's a middle of the line cable for Wire world. What I learned from Skip the longer the better. Well here's what he said.

"WireWorld strongly suggests that you go at least 2 meters on their cables to get the full effect of the geometry of the cable, but after lengthier discussions they told me it was better to go 1.5 meter with a higher cable than 2.0 with a lower."

I haven't totally broke it in yet, you need about 100 hours. I did some critical listening this last weekend and I got to say I did hear an improvement.

Good luck on whatever you get!

So @vcwatkins , did you get the Cullen power cable?

I did, and I'm very happy. Well made, fair price, fast shipping.

I prefer it over the Perfectwave AC-5, WW 5 and 7 Electra (I believe that's right), and MIT Z-Cord on both amp and preamp in the den rig. Slightly improved detail and soundstage width. Much deeper soundstage and improved bass articulation. Bass notes are noticeably more tactile through keyboard and cocktail table. The biggest improvement to my ears is the extremely deep, precise, and enveloping three-dimensional soundstage. Wonderful!

Plugging it into the Richard Gray power unit seemed to be a tad smoother on top than when plugged into the Dectet. I thought the best combo was the Cullen on preamp and AC-5 on amp, and have left them there until I can get more Cullen Crossovers, which I hope to do soon.

Better insulation and cable geometry resulting in a lower noise floor.

Additionally to that depending on what gauge you go with the possibility of a better current flow due to larger in diameter wire.

I forget what the standard gauge is for a normal IEC cable but I can tell you its thinner than most aftermarket cables by at least a size or two.
