... but now I am really curious...
This is the kind of stuff that gets me goin' hubba-hubba, FWIW:
Gary Kaufman's Altec VOT A5 cabinets loaded with 515s and topped with 1505 multicell horns driven with 288s... and Hiraga XOs. Oh, and a split Altec 210 horn used for LF reinforcement.
nomnomnomnom....

Is it even safe being in the same room with those when they be cranking,

So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Those still have the decals still on them. I was trying to find the dude on E-Bay who had an entire p.a.system of V.O.T.S w/ the horns and cabinets that were taken apart for some reason and then warehouse them. These are not them , there were banks of them.

Oh it's safe -- they're wonderful.
Gary's amplifiers are probably more health hazardous than the loudspeakers -- between the lethal plate voltages on the 211 output triodes and the 866jr mercury vapor rectifier tubes in the power supply.
