Blown RTi10 tweeters.

Yesterday I bought some RTi10's off of a gentleman with very questionable morals.
I'm sure he knew these speakers sounded like they were underwater or had a blanket on them.
The bass is super strong but no definition or clarity.
I have read numerous similarities from other posts and I'm assuming I have blown tweeter....
It's like the sound isn't coming out of them at all....
I have RT800's and RT600's and the sound jumps out at you in comparison to these RTi10's.
Is that what I'm dealing with? A tweeter replacement?
It that's the case how do I do it and what's the general cost?

Call customer care and ask them, they should have those tweeters on hand still.Main Surround -

Any ballpark figure on what the cost would be?
I naturally thought I was getting a good deal.
I'm trying not to spend too much.

Usually around $50 (tell them you're a forum member for a discount and free shipping). First off I'd troubleshoot and make sure its a bad tweeter. Check to make sure the brass jumpers are securely attached. If so, pull the tweeter and check the wires. If they look OK swap it to the other speaker and see if the problem follows it. If it does, replacement is your only option. The # for CS is 800-377-7655.
Good luck! -
Thank you Ken.
I have double checked the jumpers and even bi wired them....
It sounds muffled throughout.
But I don't think the lows are supposed to have much clarity and the highs are just nonexistent.
It sound like no sound is coming from the tweeeters.
I could take them out and switch them up before I order them.
Would they be $50 for the pair?
Cause that's manageable.....
Thank you for your help -
Is it both that are bad? Price is each, not per pair.
-
Oh shoot... Likely scenario.
Yeah they both have the underwater sound. Tons of bass no detail -
Might be able to find some used.
-
Might also be prudent to see if the crossovers are toast.HT SYSTEM-

How would I be able to check the crossovers?

I've been looking for some on eBay and haven't seen any matching.... Not sure where else to look.

Village Idiot of Club Polk -
I think those are exactly what I'm looking for....
-
Are these the real deal though? Or are they a cheap Chinese knockoff?
-
These seem like they wouldn't be the ones considering they are rated at handling only around 20 watts....?
Am I just a noob? Is there something I'm missing? -
Tweeters do not have high wattage ratings. In fact, I doubt if that tweeter sees more than 5 watts.
That said, those appear to be blems as noted in the description. Whether or not they are the real deal I can't say, but they might be as Polk has them made in China. Just spend the extra for brand new ones from Polk and you'll have no worries.
As noted though, you need to check the crossovers first as there is a high likelyhood that the resistors are toast.Political Correctness'.........defined

How do I check the crossovers? Is that a more likely scenario? Them being toast as opposed to blown tweeters?
-
Usually a visual inspection will show most problems, pull the crossover and look for blackened resistors, scorched circuit boards or damaged/leaking capacitors. The crossover should be on the other side of the input cup.
-
-
From here everything looks clean.
The black things are the the capacitors, and the white brick looking things are the resistors.
When blown the caps will usually bulge from the top and the those resistors will turn colors or crack from overheating
Boards will discolor or blacken
but again they look clean from here

The boards look clean to my eyes also... Nothing signifying any heat or popped caps.
No discoloration.
I'm assuming it's the tweeters...
Would pulling the tweeters and connecting them straight to my amp be a test method?
Thank you guys for your help -
No smells of smoke or heat related damag....
-
Yes, you can test the tweeters by powering them directly at a very low volume.
-
One tweeter tested....
No sound at all.

Call to place your order for new tweeters tomorrow.Political Correctness'.........defined
