Not looking to spend a fortune but if you got something let me know and we might be able to make something work...

I'm also NOT against the thought of LSi 7s and LSiC either... But I'm on a budget lol

AWE HELL... Tell me what bookies you got lol...

There is a single on the bay for 59.95 with free shipping you could use as center and have a seamless front stage. They go plenty low for most things especially if supplementing with a sub.

@quckr1 - probably not wanting the RT's at this time

@oldrocker - yeah will pass on those infinities, not a fan personally

@tnhndyman - those Paradigms for now I will pass on

@hochpt21 - I think the LS90's are just too big for the space, especially when I try to move them on either side of the cornered entertainment center.

Right now I'm looking at maybe some Energy RC-10's. @Rick88, @chn, @rooftop59 all seemed to really enjoy them and they are at a decent price and also within my size constraints.

That said I am ALSO looking at total DIY kits and a couple that have come up are the DIYSoundGroup Fusion 6, Volt-6 LX. I will have the opportunity to hear some of these on May 22nd in Chicago so that will help a bit at least.

The one I am most intrigued by is the Speedster which you can buy a kit (minus the box which is quite simple to build) from Meniscus. Its small but uses a ribbon tweeter and seems to get rave reviews.

If I do go with a DIY kit I will probably be wiring it with both speakon (using the 4 connection input) and binding posts. Speakon because then the kids cant knock the cables off, and binding posts for when I eventually get decent speaker cables up there.

I had some recommendations thrown my way for the Focal 705v & also the Warfedale Denton 80th Anniversary speakers from Music Direct. The Denton's would eat up almost my entire budget so I'm hesitant there. The focal's I'd want to listen to first before buying and I dont know of any local dealer with those.

I'm also keeping an eye out for Paradigm Studio Monitors (20's or 10's) and potentially Sunfire CRM-2's. The Studio 20's are a bit deeper than I'd like, but if I can get them with their stands they screw into it and become one stiff piece not likely to fall over. That said finding them in my budget isnt easy so I'm not holding my breath.

The Sunfires also will likely not be within my budget or right at the top end. Hopefully I can bribe @TRAV0810 to bring over his "updated" models to get my ear on them in my room.

The OTHER part of this build is the sub and that will be handled soon as I have already got a pre-built cabinet bought for a 18" Dayton PA-460 8 driver and will be ordering the driver shortly from Parts Express. The sub can dig down into the low 20's which makes it good for movies but even better for music as its fairly efficient and gets loud quick. I still have to suss out what amp I will be using, but I'm likely going with a pro amp of some sorts. The sub will be adjusted to be downfiring and look like an endtable. I will be utilizing speakon connectors for the sub for sure.

How about some Ascend Acoustics 340se's? I have L/C/R plus the TP-24 stands for the L/R. I know I have the box for the center, not sure about the L/R & stands.

I do really like the energy rc-10s, but they are getting harder and harder to find.

As @scubalab can attest, the Polk rt25is might fit the bill perfectly. I am still shocked how good they sound, especially for the average price they fetch on fleabay (you can easily get a pair for under a $100 shipped). And that would leave plenty of $$$ for a nice sub or two!

One other recommendation, the NHT SB3s are really nice, and dig really deep for their size. @F1nut runs a hot-rodded pair in his office setup and really likes them. But they need plenty of good, clean power, whereas the energys and polks can sing on a little tube amp...

    @DaveHo

Those "may" work just need to do some digging. I'm still somewhat not sure if the height will be too much as once you put the speakers on the stands (which look pretty darn cool I might add) they are 45" tall and my wife wanted to keep it under 37"...

They also might look wonky given the depth of the stands as they would be right up against the wall.

    Here is a pic:

    mto3w3us81y0.jpeg

    Those speakers are Sony SS-MB350H speakers and they measure 9.5 x 20.8 x 10 inches (W x H x D). I don't think I could wedge them in any farther lol....

So the depth of those speakers "could" be an issue. I'm trying to keep from having the speakers block part of that window, though that may be inevitable.

I'm fairly certain the MRX-500 can give em enough juice and since I have no plans of running 5 channels, and Anthem is known like Harmon for underrating their power, I'm not worried much power the power part.

The only thing coming out of my speaker budget is the amp for the sub and some cash for wood to spruce it up.

The enclosure and actual sub have already been purchase using other funds .

    Dan,

As Paul (rooftop) mentioned The Polk RT25i's are really nice for the price. They really sing on the little Jolida I have driving them. (And yes... they're still sitting on the floor...) You might also consider the RT35i's (a little bigger and from the same line). Or, if you have the room, the RT55i's with the dual drivers. I had a pair of the RTi38s (same as the RT35i's but with the silk tweeter) and regret selling them. I also had the RT800i's (which are basically the floorstanding version of the RT55i's) and loved them as well. Don't rule out the old RT line!!!

As for the Anthem, you're absolutely right. It'll have no problem driving just about any 8 ohm speaker. It drove my 7 channel Boston VRs with ease, and lots of breathing room. It is WAY underrated power-wise.

The Paradigms are awesome. I love my Studio 40's. You won't go wrong there if you can find a reasonably priced pair. I wouldn't shy away from the older versions either. Mine are V.2's and although a little boxy, seem better made than the newer versions.

I'd also seriously consider madmax's ELAC B6's in the FM. Reasonably priced for $200 shipped! You could easily recoup the investment if you didn't like them. I'm half tempted to give them a shot... Or you could wait a few weeks and go right to the new line and try the UB-5's right at the limit of your budget (if ELAC ever releases them!)

Also, I'd see if Walter at Underwood HiFi has any Gallo CL-2's left. He was blowing them out at $369/pair. The CDT-3 wide-field tweeter looks intriguing.

    Options, options, and more options!

I don't think that placement will work for the Ascends. They are rear ported & need some room to sound their best. They will look huge & out of place jammed into the corner. They are great speakers, but I wouldn't use them in your situation.

Yeah, I kinda figured that would be the case.

Don't worry, you'll get disgusted with the compromises a corner placement imposes & be back to having a full blown set-up sooner or later, lol...

LOL... well the idea is that for music I move them onto the half wall and out a bit from it and then when I'm done move back to corner placement. I use the better stereo placement for when I run ARC too lol....

For casual TV listening and even the movies we watch up there, its more about the "family time aspect" and less about the movie experience.

Don't care if "Catfish" or "Balto" or "Dora" sound GREAT (which they wont due to corner loading lol).

I tried to get my wife to go for having the TV in front of that window and whatnot but that did fly....

With the limited with, I wish a set of myths sts or goldenear was in your budget. They would be thin enough to fit that space.

Why not just the t50 and matching center? They'll sound good wherever you put them because of the passive and it won't kill you if the kiddos damage them. Don't overthink this.

    Too late, I always overthink.

The other thing is that the Anthem is a top notch piece of gear deserving of some decent speakers for it.

It would be like taking your SET tube amps and going, eh I've got 600 bucks for speakers, but lets just go buy some Monitor 30's those should be fine.

I understand where your coming from on the price and kid scenario but I'm trying to get some midgrade speakers and I figured with 600 and just looking at bookies that should be possible.

My wife it out of town in a couple weeks for the weekend so I may try to fip the room around to where the TV is centered with the window, put the couch along the furnace wall and the chair somewhere else and see how all that looks and leave it to get her thoughts....

The other idea was to potentially tear down that pony wall and built it 40+ inches tall so we could put the couch against it and the TV along the longer wall. But then I didn't want to deal with having to be watching the kids up there 24/7 to ensure they didnt climb on the couch and fall off the ledge....
