Polk SL6001 and SL6501 Trilaminate tweeters- What's the difference?

Hi all,

Hoping you can clue me in. I have a pair of RT16 towers and a CS350 centre. I believe the tweeter in these is supposed to be the same. However the tweeters in the towers are SL6501s with a frosted silver dome, whereas the tweeter in the centre is an SL6001 with a reflective chrome looking dome.

Do these tweeters have any performance or specification differences other than the frosted vs reflective appearance of their domes?

Just wondering if I should swap out the SL6001 for a spare SL6501 I have.

I could be wrong but I believe one has a bucking magnet for video shielding and the other doesn't. Other than that, same specs.

Thanks Ken, However both have the bucking magnet glued on the back.

Maybe @KennethSwauger can chime in then. That or call CS @ 800-377-7655 and ask them.

I'll check with the service department in Vista, I believe they have a list of suitable substitution components given by the engineering department.

I received a reply from the head of the service department:

"Hello Ken,
Yes you can use the RD6517-1 for either one as a replacement.
Gil"

They can be considered interchangeable.

I went ahead and changed the SL6001 to the SL6501. They all look the same now, and I didn't notice any real difference in sound.

Hello @Gretsch6136, I know it has been almost 8 years but my problem is similar to yours in that I have the LS-90 towers which have the SL6001 whereas my center CS350LS has the SL6501. The difference I see is that the SL6001 has a golden chrome color mirror like shine whereas the SL6501 is matt silver finish.

I hope any chance do you still have the SL6001 tweeter and are willing to sell, please let me know. Thank you!
