I haven't heard the RDOs yet - soon - but from my understanding they're both good.

Between those 2 I like the peerless. Sound more natural to me. 194s are very nice though.

Wish I could hear the 198s.

I've compared all three. The Peerless are fine Tweeters, and were one of the best back in the day. The RDO-194 and 198 are better to my ears. The 198 has a bit more detail than the 194, but both are superior to the Peerless, and SL1000, SL2000, SL2500. I've not heard the SL3000.

When I was upgrading my CRSs I spent a bunch of time listening to Model 11s with the Peerless. They sounded more detailed on string music. The 194s are smoother overall in my opinion. Guess it's just about personal taste. The 11s went back to 2nd system duty after I finished the CRS build though. Listening to them right now. Very sweet.

SL2000s are unlistenable for me after hearing both the peerless and RD0.

The Monitor 11 peerless w/tweets are hard to beat. Never really A&B'd them over the 194's. I do like the 194's but id say i like the 198's the best. Cant remember what the 15's had (thinking sl3000's) which the 198's stomped. I do know when i listen to instrumental music with bells & chimes the 198's sound so nice.... I just got a pair of Monitor 4.6's w/sl2500 & they arent too bad. I may change them out down the road

I like my M10as' peerless better than my M7v2s' RD0198.

From what I hear it seems as if the RDO 194 are more accurate (for lack of a better word) however, the Peerless seem to have more soul.. I am comparing the peerless in Monitor 5s to the RDO 194s in the SDA 2b speakers so that probably is not at all fair to start with..

I had 5a's with Peerless tweets hooked to a Sansui G2000 & it was pure bliss. Gosh i miss that goodness :)

I'd like to retract this statement ... after replacing the electrolytic cap in my M7 RD0198s' circuit with a Dayton poly, it's outpaced the Peerless which is running on stock caps. That said the RD0198s in my 3.1TLs are also kicking serious butt.

  • I have had all three. I like the 198 first with the 194 coming in second. Given the age of the Peerless drivers the current comparisons may have been different back in the day. When they first came out I remember the first version of the Monitor series to have been quite nice.
