SDA 2B TL questions

A couple of questions on doing SDA 2B TL I have done this before but am really on the cheap now. I used Solen 5.6uf and 12uf caps but still have the 20uf and 40uf to do as well as the resistor

1) What is the difference between the 2.7ohm sandcast original and say a Madisound wire wound in ceramic? Last time I used an Mundorf but might have been a little cold sounding but not bad. I know someone will bring up Mills but that is more money

2) Should I just replace the 20 and 40 with new electrolytics?
OR
Maybe the 20 with a Solen and the 40 with a Bendic? electro

3) The 750 Silver Mica What does it do and what effect does it have on the sound? Brighten it? Not brighten it?
Thanks

Think the 750pF cap was to bypass a lower quality electrolytic. When using higher quality film caps, this is usually deleted from the rebuild.

If I were in your shoes and trying to recap on a budget, I'd extend my time frame of when I was going to purchase in order to save up a few ducats to put in film caps of some variety. Dayton 40uF are less than $12 per at Parts Express, so you're not taking on too much financial damage for a better option.

The 750pF silver-mica bypassed a Mylar film cap. As I understand it, the Mylar film caps were better than electrolytics, but not up to the standards of today's film caps.

Yup, I'd drop Dayton (5%) or ERSE (3%) film caps in there. Not particularly expensive, but far better than electrolytics.

The Mills resistors fit the circuit board of my 1Bs better than the large ceramic block resistors, but parts-express.com doesn't stock Mills in 2.7 ohm, so I ended up with the big ceramic block jobs, which I bought from parts-express.com or ERSE. OEM resistors are--I think--5-watt rating, and likely not-very-tight tolerance. The big ceramics I used are 10- or 12-watt, and 5% tolerance. Mills are 1% tolerance. I'd have Mills if I could get them with the rest of my order from parts-express, but I don't want to pay separate shipping from a boutique store.

What effect does the silver-mica have on the sound I thin last time I removed it but some have said it adds more air?

It doesn't add air, it adds artifacts.

There is a joke there. I get the caps. As for the resistors are the Maidsound wire wound and better then the stock 2.7 and how do the compare to the Mundorf.?

I just went with the Mundorf. The silver mica leads have to tied together right?

I just remove the Micas, totally.

^ What he said. The Mills 2.7 MRA-12 Ohm Resistor is no longer available but can be had in 5 & 10 watt version from Sonic Craft.

    2.7 Ohm Mills MRA-5

    2.7 Ohm Mills MRA-10

Just to amuse myself I sat down and played a number of songs from Prince. Some can be a little hot on top. Took the passives out and reached in and bent the silver-micas back and forth until they broke off. Put the passives back and re played thy same tracks. Not as crispy/bright on top More silky. No question about it. Now whether someone may like them in better, that is personal preference.
