Not to just flip from analog out to coax out. Coax is like 10 times louder. Does anyone know why this is?

Not sure of your setup, but it could have to do with the volume settings (fixed or variable) of your source or AVR.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden

Time to hit the Oppo book again. I am learning but not faster than I forget.
-
I haven't found anything about output levels so far. Stereo downmix is not going to do it, at least I don't think so. Any Oppo experts please chime in if you know how to limit the output levels. This is not an issue until I switch back and forth for SACD playback. The coax is fine for most of what I play but I know I will forget about this hitch on the occasion that I need to switch back and forth between coax and analog out.

I don't know how different the 93 and 103 menus are but on the 93 you hit the setup button on the remote, go to "Audio Processing", then change the "Output Volume" to fixed.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

I feel like I should probably say this: Turn the volume way down first.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

oh, far out, that worked. Thanks Night
I am a more on and never would have figured that out.

Sometimes audio manuals are to say the least, poorly written. Pay attention to the bottom of pages too that have an asterisk for additional info. You really have to read manuals at least twice cover to cover to get a grasp on it.
Glad you found it anyway, but I don't think there should be that big of a difference. Maybe some other setting is off kilter that is allowing that big of difference in volume between outputs.HT SYSTEM-

Glad you figured it out!
Do you have your 103 output SACD in DSD or PCM?

If you have an Oppo, I'm pretty sure this is your issue. Go into the Oppo setup menu and change the volume control output. I think you should have it set to fixed, but I'm not looking at mine now so I could be wrong.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -

This worked thanks for the help as always. I would be lost without you folks but not as broke. -

Does anyone know how to turn off the subs?
I have been trying out various ways of using it and I cant figure out how to take the subs out of the mix short of unplugging them. I have everything hooked up to do the HT bypass.Post edited by afterburnt on -
Not following....."everything" hooked up to the HT bypass ? Usually that's just a front left and right.HT SYSTEM-

It has 2 subs inputs to the bypass in addition to the LR mains.
-
You want the subs off for movies ? If so, hook the subs up only to the P5's sub out connections.HT SYSTEM-

The other option, depending on your receiver, is to make that adjustment in the receiver. Some allow for different profiles for both music and movies. Though I'm not sure why you'd want the subs off for movies.
Is their something about the sound your getting your not liking ?HT SYSTEM-

No I want them off for music. I figured someone knew a way to do this. The book says nothing but how to adjust the sub level.
-
Short of turn the subs off, I don't think you can. Are you running the mains full range even for HT? If not you'll need to fiddle with the switch on the back for that too.
-

Off for music ? They should be off if they are connected to the bypass, as long as your source is connected to the P5 and not the receiver.HT SYSTEM-

Tony the bypass setting just allows the signal for the L R and subs to pass through the P5 unaffected from the AVR for movies.. I want to compare the sound of the L R with just the P5 or just the AVR without the subs..am I correct in assuming that the P5 is still processing the sub channel even without them being plugged in? With the AVR in direct mode there is no sub signal being processed.
-
Skip my sources are hooked up directly to the P5. I am assuming that the P5 is still processing the sub channel regardless whether a sub is connected or not. So the ".1" part of the signal is lost without the sub hooked up. Playing through the AVR in "pure direct" mode ther is no ".1" signal processing so everything goes to the L/R. I am trying to compare the P5 to the AVR. With the exact same signal. Is this not possible?
-
I think I've got it. Turn off the main xo and zero out the sub xo,no?
