Does anyone know the compound that is applied to the MW's from factory?
If it's silica based then a silicon based cleaner is OK.Don't take experimental gene therapies from known eugenicists. -

No one really even really offered up a guess as what this so called white crude may be. Could it be the possible over use of the mortite mod that worked it's way through ? Caulk does eventually dry up, cracks and goes all over the place.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Here is an article on Rubber Blooms. Which is the white residue silicon rubber can exhibit.

That's one of the 6511's I found
. It still works. Can it be glued as is? Same thing with the sl2000. The white spots appeared after the windex cleaning. I used a wet microfiber towel and followed your instructions. This only happened on the pair against the wall. The 2nd pair in the middle of the room cleaned up nicely. -
I didn't say use a wet cloth, I said spray the Windex on the cloth and keep it wet (with more Windex). Try the Fantastic or 409 on the surrounds.Home Theater/2 Channel:

That's what I meant to say. I knew you would correct me as soon as I hit the post button, Lol.. I did not spray the drivers.. I sprayed the cloth.
-
what do you think about the condition of that 6511? Salvageable?

Use a dry cloth, spray it with Fantastic or 409, and see if that gets the crud off.Home Theater/2 Channel:

I used to have a pair of SDA SRS where the center caps of the woofers appeared to have a white powder on them, had been stored in a very humid place before I bought them.Vinyl, the final frontier...

I see a photo of a spider. Has it lifted?Home Theater/2 Channel:

Yes. It's lifted a bit. I found 2 this way.
-
Has the edge of the spider detached, or is the spider torn? If its lifted, you can glue it back down with some Aleen's Tacky Glue. You need a 1/4-3/8" flat artists brush to get in there. Lift the edge, and get the glue in between the spider and the frame. You'll probably need to set the woofer on its back, and compress the cone during the drying process. It might be a good idea to run the glue all the way around the edge of the spider, JIC.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Excellent!! I intend to use a 10ml 2'' 14 gauge blunt syringe to deliver the Aleen's. I just fill up with Aleen's and get ready for fun. I'm glad it's fixable. You should seriously try the syringe method. It delivers a controlled, even bead of glue.

In addition to crossovers, I re-edge and re-cone woofers for a living.Home Theater/2 Channel:

Yes Sir, I know you by reputation. I have used a syringe for sometime now. Just sharing...
I've seen a few of your crossovers. I know you are an experienced jedi, with serious skills. What say you to 4 of those bad boys for my SRS 1.2?? $$ -
The syringe is a great idea, but you should still put a bead around the entire spider, and the brush will come in handy.
I'd be happy to work with you on your 1.2s, but I don't do business through the forum.

I used to have a pair of SDA SRS where the center caps of the woofers appeared to have a white powder on them, had been stored in a very humid place before I bought them.
I know this is a old post and I'm new here but I recently purchased another set of srs1.2's and have the same issue with the white powder around the dust caps of half of them. How and what did you use to clean the caps? -
It can be the glue they used to attach the dust cap or a type of mold. You can use a soft toothbrush with water and carefully use the brush around the edges. You can collapse the dome if you try and push on the top with the brush. If after a few days you notice it again it more than likely is glue based.
Many of the drivers get those spots/rings it is not harmful. If you want to use something stronger original windex is preferred.
@westmassguy has used Fantastic or 409 and has had success with those on the rubber surrounds.
Still using the soft brush carefully try one of those if Original Windex does not remove the white deposits. If it's glue residue it may not completely come off.
You need ro be very careful and not soak that area as it will drain into the voice coil area. That could start a new problem that could escalate quickly. -
Original Windex removes both, IME. When doing the surrounds/cones use a soft lint free cloth, spray the Windex on the cloth and wipe in a circular motion.
For the dust caps I spray Windex onto a soft toothbrush, then scrub gently.Political Correctness'.........defined
