I used to used home made closed cell foam cylinders when I wanted to block a port.
That way I could remove them if I decided to reuse the cabs for a ported venture.

My kinda guy right there. PolkaMcGuyver always finds a way lol.

Me, I gotta add some bling as the kids say.
PS, I found another set of those billet speaker bases if you want a set. Free ala XSchop if you want them.

I was sending out a set of trans mounts and got an idea for wider bolt-on stands/bases with poly inserts.....

And I will have to find appropriate grommets or machine the post hole insert diameters to properly sleeve/insulate the long threaded binding posts I ordered.....

Thanks for the offer, but I have mine on studio foam blocks, which kill any bass transmission to the book shelves that they sit on top.
I have 80 year old neighbors and need to keep things from vibrating.
Luckily I have a cinder block firewall between myself and the neighbor that's on the other side of my music room.

Yes, I saw that Cambridge sub you posted picture of. I bet it sounds sweet. Iv'e kept in mind the time-aligned idea you mentioned and also read the thread about the double-spaced Advents where the top one is inverted....
So why not try both mods.....

Absolute Phenomenal sound coming from all 4 channels....
    s6kyrbq0y7k1.jpg

With the front ports properly plugged/sealed the "power ports" are now extending very low.... My shop is insulated R-30 and brick walls thankfully....No sub needed.

I always liked the idea of those rear port diffusers, that I saw on a pair of Polks that could also be wall mounted.
It's a new twist on an old speaker design that they used to mount on top of a cabinet to spread the highs in a 360 degree pattern.
I find that just moving a speaker an inch or so can make a huge difference.
I have that Cambridge on it's side on the bottom level of my bakers rack, with a beach towel folded underneath.
It keeps the shelf from "ringing".

These 5jr crossover housings sure are versatile.... And loose too. Seems like they are ABS plastic and 2-piece glued together at factory. I am modding another set and put them on my lathe to cut a 2.00" hole and one fell apart. Looks like they are spot glued in a few places where they interface....oaycd86ehbzj.jpg

What is the standard crossover lead-wire upgrade? The ones I'm working on are factory 18 ga.

Ok I updated all internal wiring to 16g OFC and it brightened the tweets up???

It's a fine line between love and hate with these Sl-1000's, so I'm revisiting the smooth 5000's....
    Without a billet baffle....

Is that DURHAM"S water putty you're using there ?
    That stuff is great !
I once had a pair of those cheap curved back KEF clone speakers that Best Buy was hawking and the way they got the curve was to place many kerf cuts across the interior side walls, then heat bend the MDF to get the curve.
The trouble with that method is the cabinets would ring like a bell.
I used that stuff to trowel into the slots and it deadened the cabs quite well.

I have used Durham's before and it is excellent. But on this one, I used Bondo Wood filler as it is 2-part activated, and has the same properties as reg. Auto Bondo in which I sprayed a light layer of cooking oil over the 2.5" diameter paint can cap so it popped right out after curing overnight.
I'm using the same cap to do the other one as we speak. It behaves just like the HDF when using wood- working tools as well and bonds seamlessly.

Not surprising, the SL1000/SL2000 have a resonance peek around 12.5 KHz. Like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I'm not sure about what frequencies the Prussian Blue toned down, probably a larger segment, and I did try 1.6 Mills resistors and the chalkboard segment is still there even. Too bad tweeters are not like DNA where you can cut and paste a sequence hehe.

You could design a notch filter to remove it, but better off with one of the RDO-194/198 replacement tweeters.

They sound incredible with the Inverted 5jr's with SL5000 on top and the SL1000's disconnected from the TMM and all 4 channels going. So I'm on a mission.

It's probably too late, but you might try the vintage peerless tweeters or the current knockoffs of them. Physically they are the same mount as the SL1000.

It's never too late when you've got grinders and chisels.

I've heard the old Peerless in Mon 4's. They sound pretty good, but still not as smooth as SL-5000's.

Hey XS, there's a guy on Fleabay parting out a pair of 5 Jr+'s if you still want to try messing with those cabs.
He's got the passives and woofers up for sale too.

Although they would sound great, I don't believe they would have the lower extension with two active MWs, since the cabs are smaller volume. I did buy an extra set of Power Ports to experiment with later though, you never know.

I had to slightly fill in a second coat and chisel the input tab areas. Palm sander makes the work too easy. Can't wait to hear them without the duct tape securing the tweets hehe...2izgnxt4eg7n.jpg

More than 1/4" wide surface to seal and I added a smear of Power Grab where the compound and factory HDF interface after I drilled new tab locations. The repair will be just as strong as the HDF...

I'm reminded why I didnt paint my last custom ride. The small pin-holes and imperfections take a long time to get right.....
I like the flat-black and will probably machine some billet grill grommet plug replacements....khk752nc5l56.jpg

I finally scored the correct OD billet to make the crossover binding plate adapters....
5.5" is difficult to find in small drop-offs....

Flat black is a little too dull. The gloss black loves dust, so satin it is for the compromise. Two more coats between wet sanding and they are done...
