Maybe for someone who considers stereo gear a lifetime purchase, and can live with it for decades. That is how I ended up with my stereo. Since I felt I would use it the rest of my life, I used some retirement money so that I could enjoy it now.

I like the looks of his products. The only problem is I'll need 5 of them for my HT system.

Is D'agostino the same guy who designed some of the SAE and GAS amps?

Don't know about that but he was the owner of Krell before the board of directors bent him over......

You know that makes a lot of sense once you stop and process it. We're not getting any younger, retirement looms and an end-game strategy isn't a bad idea.

That would be James Bongiorno. He passed away a couple years ago. As mentioned, Dan founded Krell before he was ousted by an investor he brought in. He did design some Aragon amps, one being the Aragon 4004. Dan D'Agostino and two other guys had founded the parent company of Aragon and Acurus, can't recall the name. Klipsh owns the Aragon/Acurus brand IIRC.

Dan is a well respected designer. I have one of his old Krell designs, the KSA-250.

History has shown me that you can buy amps and preamps and such used for about half of MSRP if you look for awhile. Funny thing is, they will sell again for that same price 10 years later unless something digital is involved. Makes it seem reasonable to buy such things and trade in later for retirement. But full price, I have a hard time with $14K...

Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... :D

Anthony "Tony" Federici and Paul Rosenberg founded Mondial, the first product line was Aragon. Acurus was added later, as was MAGIC and AmFi. Both Tony and Paul are now dead. Tony died shortly after the sale to Klipsch, and Paul a few years ago.

Far as I know, D'Agostino was never a partner in Mondial. He was contracted by Mondial to design the circuitry, select parts for, and plan the QA process for the 004 amplifier series. If I'm wrong, I'd like to hear about it. (Robbii Wessen performed the "visual" styling and parts-layout.)

Klipsch bought "select" Mondial brands, (Nobody's saying, exactly, but you don't see any MAGIC or AmFi products...) screwed-around with them for a few years, and sold Acurus and Aragon to a couple of former employees, who now sell Acurus and Aragon equipment under the Indy Audio Labs corporate umbrella.

    Time is philosophy.

Sometimes, it's just nuts to absorb the bought-it-new depreciation.
