Yep. Got the WW cables. Balanced XLR and some AQ RCA. He carries Cary(heehee) so I might take looksee at those. Skipper has a lead on some nice goodies as well. Gonna meet him and Ron txcoastal out in Dallas. Good times ahead!

I'd swap for a Cary any day Russ.....plus you already have the benefit of knowing how it would sound on your system. I might suggest to move on from the AQ though. MIT, Acoustic Zen or Harmonic tech would be a huge improvement....or even the WW Eclipse 7'S....all far superior.

True, Tony. The AQs were just lying around when the gear showed up. Only had a day to get it running before I went to Miami. Cary is on the top of the list. But still want to try out a couple more suggestions before a final decision is made. Plus want to talk to Mark (?) At EP about the x-over.
And then I might get a wild hair up my arse and go double tube amps on the power side!
Overkill. SS should fit the bill there.

And let's not forget....you did not here me talking about audio here. Pinky swear. ;)

I wish you lived closer, I would take a weekend and bring my Joule 150A over. It is not the last word is resolution or accuracy but, it has a great fundamental musicality and body that many preamps can’t match. The McIntosh c-46 or the AR Sp16 that I had I feel were more accurate but, since I am sitting 5 feet away from the speakers and the wall about a foot behind me with a blanket to help absorb some of the bouncing, more accurate = ringy to my ears before I can get the room pressurized properly.

I think any of the pre-s suggested will sound great with your system but, they do have a very different signature sound to them. The BL was a bit more lively / in your face in the mid and top where the Joule is all there, just not as in your face but extremely smooth and the bottom end detail on the joule is amazing. I have heard Cary before but just not the p5

I also 2nd tony's cables recommendation. Right now I have a combo of AZ and ww eclipse 7 IC and AZ double barrel speaker cables.

Wow, you musta bribed them big time to agree to that one...

I will keep them in my prayers...

PS watch out you may pee outside their hotel rooms, but @DSkip may let something exit his **** chute and waft your way... so be careful not to poke the bear hehehe..

I've been told he's especially fond of doing that in the tight confined space of an elevator and watch as you try valiantly to claw your way out in a vain attempt to escape while it goes up or down.

Boogerballs! I guess I'll have to do it the old fashioned way. Get up and turn it down. Fiddlesticks!

I would want a remote in that price range!
  • HMMM let me think, how about a beautiful silver parasound p5. She sings to me like a angel and can lull me to sleep in mere minutes. How does that sound lightman .

Why? That's more in the way of the signal. Physical media requires you to get up anyways, and streaming includes volume so you can continue to sit on your lazy butt. Food for thought is all.

    Why? Really?
  • It makes me smile every time I fire it up. Hey Russ it has a remote, that should seal the deal and it lights up ! For when you get old and tour **** gets lazy. LOL.. I have not used mine yet still in wrapper.
  • Your a good dude Skip.

Depends on your listening habits as Skip suggests but in general, the volume control on a pre amp of quality is going to be better than the volume control on streaming devices.....noise wise. If you listen at higher volumes you can really hear the difference. That's been my experience, yours might be different.

Remote option is not a deal breaker. If has a quality pot in it and doesn't degrade the signal, I'm good either way. The parasound P5 might work. Haven't heard one but the reviews and good old Bob here is enough to peak my interest.

Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!!
  • Try it out Russ, I love mine but you have to remember I went from 40 plus year old receiver that I added pre outs to. So for me it was a beautiful sound change that I am very happy I made. And you also know what TT, speakers and I pod set up I have. And I am no audiophile. Good luck man it is a pain to pull the trigger.
