    Prayers for you and Mom pal.....but in all seriousness, my neighbor was in the same boat with cancer and doctors gave him 6 months to live also. Went through the chemo thing and the whole 9 yards associated with it.

    That was 10 years ago and he's still kicking. What changed ? He basically wanted to get the heck out of the hospital because he didn't want to die there and simply wanted to go home. Once home, he spent a few months getting his strength back, dived back into work, and continued doing what he always did.....smoke, drink like a fish, and eat like crap.

    Don't ask me, I can't explain it. You'd think that's what gave him cancer to begin with. Yet today, he's just as functional as the day he found out he had cancer. I even held a fund raiser for the dude after hearing he had cancer with 6 months to live. His wife and 3 kids which were young at the time were struggling as it was....and it was Christmas time to boot.

    Maybe it's best to let Mom come home, take her meds, let her regain some strength and try and keep her mind busy. Least until that day comes. Give her some sort of quality of life, something to look forward to and keep her mind occupied. Just sayin'....these things effect everyone differently. Prayers none the less....

    Remain hopeful, my sister is an oncology nurse and she tells me all the time with todays therapys nothing is written in stone. I know what you are going thru, 2-fold, take it a day at a time, and hope for small victories. God bless you buddy, and God bless Mom.

    One day in 1988 I received a similar prognosis for my mother, and I shall never forget it.

    Only faith, prayer, and the love of family and friends will assuage the pain, and even then only to a degree and over time.

    I am so sorry yo hear this. In September I lost my father to cancer. He had stage 4 liver cancer and also got phenomena after several chemo treatments. Its hard enough to see loved ones go through the chemo side effects. Cancer effects everyone around the person from us as the caretakers on down.

    The only small piece of advice I can give is always let them know they are not a nuisance. My dad always felt in the way or that he was a nuisance to everyone. They have a hard enough time going through it all and then to add that on top of their worries...... it's hard when the child of a parent basically becomes the parent.

    If you ever need an ear to vent to, I'm here for you.

    To update everyone... Today they discovered a different form of cancer in one of her ****. Treatable they say, with surgery, but risky because of everything else is working against her.

    Tonight she said she has had enough.

    My mother also decided to just accept her fate.She only wanted to see all of her children and grandchildren before she died and it took a bit (*as we're scattered across the country*) but she got her wish.
    If nothing else in life one should always be able to decide ones own fate in a dignified manner. As long as the family can respect their wishes and make the best of the situation then all is well.
    Pray and give as much love as possible until the end.
    Do all that needs to be done and say all that needs to be said and there will be no regrets.
