Sub not working

I have a psw100 and I just moved into a new home and after hooking everything up I noticed that the sub is not working. All I get is a loud thud when I touch a cable. Is my sub blown? or could it be something else?

    A loud thud when you touch the cable?? hehe.....come on now...lol

    What cable? The power cable? The LFE cable?

    Are you touching the end of the LFE cable and does it go THUD? lol

    Is it powering on? (Green light)

    Is the subwoofer turned on (receiver, LFE ON/OFF, etc)

    Is a fuse blown?

    One way to test is Ken's way.......take a cd player or dvd player, plug it up to the Sub's L&R inputs, plug it up, TURN DOWN THE SUBWOOFER FIRST, then play a song with bass, then start turning the volume up on the sub....

    if nothing happens. Call ken tommorow.

    Sorry, Yes green light is on, I get the thud when I touch the lfe cables sometimes, not all the time. How do you check the fuse?

    Don't worry about the fuse just yet....

    Check all your receiver settings....it seems like something is setup wrong....

    if you can touch the LFE cable and it makes sound (a continuous sound while your finger is on the tip) it is receiving power, electricity - and as long as that driver is moving and making noise.......it is working...

    So check the receiver settings, if that fails - do the cd player. I doubt it is the fuse, because if it was, it wouldnt turn on.

    I was just playing with it and I noticed the light is red not green, does that make a difference?

    Sounds like a bad cable.

    I think red means it isnt receiving a signal? or is on stand by? I dont know............

    I dont have a subwoofer with stand by....

    try the cd player thing - report back...

    That is about the only way to see if it is an amp problem or not...

    if it is, you will need to contact Ken tommorow...

    If you still get no sound - press evenly around the dust cap of the woofer and listen for rubbing, if it rubs - its blown...

    So try those ideas, then report back. Hope this helps!

    Could be a bad cable as said above, switch em out - didnt think of that.......

    I tried a different cable and still nothing. My sub does not have a dust cover it is all solid, I bought it a few years ago, I don't even know what the wattage is. is there a fuse?

    Not sure if there is a fuse or not. If it is, it will be on the inside with the amp probally....

    Again though, best way to test it out...

    Take a CD Player/DVD player -- take a patch cable, take the R and L outs on the player to the R & L ins on the subwoofer. Turn the subwoofer volume (on the sub amp) all the way down, play a CD with bass --- then turn up the volume slightly to see if you have sound. If not, it is probally an amp problem...

    At that moment, tommorow I would call Ken, explain to him the problem and he will send you a replacement amp or tell you what to do.

    Hello ,
    Thanks for contacting us. Here's a fool proof way to test to see if the sub-woofer is the cause:
    1). turn the volume all of the way down on the sub-woofer and remove all of the connecting cables/wires except the AC power cord.
    2). find the right and left RCA cables that go from your DVD player to the receiver and remove them at the back of the receiver.
    3). bring the DVD player over to the sub-woofer and provide AC power for the DVD player, then connect the right and left RCA cables from the DVD player to the corresponding right and left inputs on the sub-woofer.
    4). begin playing any CD (not a DVD, but a CD) and turn the volume up slightly on the sub-woofer. There should be plenty of clean sounding bass with no bad noises. Let the CD play completely through and try stopping and starting the player.
    Let me know the results.

    Ok, hooked up the dvd like you said and played a cd, I could hear the bass beat, and then some scratchy sounds like the words. What next.?

    If I understand you correctly, the "thumping" stopped but you heard bass distortion, correct? It's possible the initial problem was caused by a faulty RCA cable causing the transient thump you heard. When you connect a source, like a DVD player, directly this eliminates the RCA cable problem. But, the 10" woofer might have been damaged from the initial problem. This is a band pass design, meaning the 10" woofer is inside the enclosure. To remove it first unplug the AC power cord and take out the bass amplifier. Then you can remove the 10" woofer and place it upside down on a section of carpet. Then try playing it directly powered by your receiver, if you continue hearing distortion then it would have to be replaced.
