Anyone know this? I need a server instead of 3 drives

I sure would like to centralize my FLAC's instead of having to deal with my individual drives. Maybe if i wasn't such a dumb **** I could accomplish this by hard wiring all of my stuff but I like being hi tech challenged.

I guess my first question is....why do you have 3 drives to begin with ?
Take your time answering that.....I don't know what my second question is yet.HT SYSTEM-

just my usual bassakwards stuff. I got portable drives that I update as I add to my collection for each of my systems.

So you have various external hard drives for various systems.....and you want to stream to all the systems from one drive ? Is that what your talking about ?HT SYSTEM-

All hardwired too ? I only see 2 usb ports. Plus the one you posted doesn't come with the drives. You want this one ....?

That's great....but, how are you planning on streaming everything on it to different systems ? This appears to just be a storage device, not a streaming one too.HT SYSTEM-

Actually if I bothered I could probably run cat5 or something to the other 2 rooms and get it working. I just want to push a button and have the same thing in any place.

I hear ya....dang convenient isn't it. Are you using the computer to manage this as of now or you just have separate hard drives, each controlled individually. Just trying to get a beat on how your doing it all now so we can figure out the cheapest solution.
Depends too if all this can be hardwired or you just want to stream wireless around to each system. If wireless, I would suggest Sonos, and if higher rez is up your alley, the Bluesound nodes. Which basically, either will simply take all your drives and make one library for you to stream. Downside is you'll need a nifty box at each system to receive it. Buying them used can save you some coin though. Other options exist too, but we have to know what you have right now and the path.

I have a Synology 713+ that feeds my LAN (CAT 6 wiring, gigabit ethernet), which goes to three PS Audio DACs fitted with PS Audio bridges.
I can control the streaming from any computer, iPad, iPhone or other device that has access to my LAN, and I can stream simultaneously to these devices.
However, the devices will not be synchronized, if you are trying to have the same music playing in multiple rooms at the same time. (At least, I have not figured out how to do this.)
DSM and Audio Station (another Synology app you will use) do not support high resolution files, as far as I have been able to determine. However, you can install alternative apps that will serve high-res files.
I am no expert, just a similarly hi-tech challenged individual trying to muddle through.Family Room, Innuos Statement streamer (Roon Core) with Morrow Audio USB cable to McIntosh MC 2700 pre with DC2 Digital Audio Module; AQ Sky XLRs to CAT 600.2 dualmono amp, Morrow Elite Speaker Cables to NOLA Baby Grand Reference Gold 3 speakers. Power source for all components: Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One with dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel.
Exercise Room, Innuos Streamer via Cat 6 cable connection to PS Audio PerfectWave MkII DAC w/Bridge II, AQ King Cobra RCAs to Perreaux PMF3150 amp (fully restored and upgraded by Jeffrey Jackson, Precision Audio Labs), Supra Rondo 4x2.5 Speaker Cables to SDA 1Cs (Vr3 Mods Xovers and other mods.), Dreadnaught with Supra Rondo 4x2.5 interconnect cables by Vr3 Mods. Power for each component from dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel, except Innuos Statement powered from Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One. -
I was not trying to sync differen locations I meant to have the same material available.

You need a plan. To make a plan, check this Complete Guide To HiFi UPnP / DLNA Network Audio page out.

How will you feed the DAC? USB? SPDIF?
If USB, this is a nifty little device. Point it to your NAS with the music stored on it, USB output to DAC. $298 base price. A buddy of mine has one of these on order. If you've used LMS (Logitec Media Server) you'd be at home with squeezelite. These things are getting smaller to become simpler.

SELECTABLE OUTPUT MODES
Mode #1 - SqueezeLite Output - This output works with any Logitech Media Server and compatible controllers. This output supports true gapless playback of PCM and DSD/DoP.
Mode #2 - ShairPort Output - This is an AirPlay emulator that utilizes streams sent to it from a compatible source. This output supports true gapless playback of PCM.
Mode #3 - MPD/DLNA Output:
Mode #3a - DLNA Output - This output utilizes streams from UPNP/DLNA servers and controllers. This output can be configured as an OpenHome renderer. This output supports true gapless playback of PCM, DSD/DoP, and native DSD.
Mode #3b - MPD Output - This output is intended to work with local storage. This output supports true gapless playback of PCM, DSD/DoP, and native DSD. This option requires a USB drive with your content in combination with the built in Drive Mounter application.
Mode #4 - HQ Player NAA Output - This output utilizes streams from Signalyst's HQ Player running on your computer. Digital signal processing is performed by HQ Player and then asynchronously streamed to the Network Audio Adapter (NAA) output. This output supports true gapless playback of PCM, DSD/DoP, and native DSD.
Mode #5 - RoonReady Output - This output utilizes streams from Roon. This output supports true gapless playback of PCM, DSD/DoP, and native DSD.
Or take an old computer and load Vortexbox on it. NOTE: The latest version 2.4 will only work on 64 bit hardware. V2.2 or 2.3 will work on 32 bit machines. I haven't done it but some folks have used Vortexbox with NAS. (Just has a boot drive, point it to your music folder). Vortexbox is Linux op system. Runs headless, no monitor or keyboard EXCEPT to set it up.

Once you decide how and set up a budget for it, it becomes easy.

Thanks for all of the info SComp It would be all USB. But that is way too much money (I am broke again, I ordered me up a nice VD gift to myself). If can get some cables to the other rooms I think that I can live with what I have although I sure would like a RAID server set to the redundant mode and that would give me some simplicity and peace of mind.

You can build an inexpensive low-power server to run Vortexbox and plug your drives into it. Mine's been running for years. You can also try it for free on any old PC. LMS is included.

Definitely an option on the cheap. So I gather your not going wireless and everything would be hardwired ?

Connect portable hard drives to computer then computer to DAC? Just trying to understand the entire path.
How much total music are we talking about in GB or TB?

A little less than a TB they are hooked up to either an AVR or a player.no seperate dacsno computer involved

Ah, gotcha.
You need to get a computer involved, or a dedicated music server. Right now you have different hard drives on different systems and no way to combine it all into one library. I don't know of anything that will do that on the cheap. Unless you buy a cheap used 'puter, laptop.
How do you receive your internet service ?HT SYSTEM-

Because their isnt. And I dont even know of anything that can do it REGARDLESS of cost.
You need to centralize it all, even if its plugging all the drives into a single computer. Then you can install something that will look at each drive and catalog it into a single library.
The way you have it setup now just is going to cause you headaches moving forward."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Agree Dan, that's why I thought the Sonos or Bluesound might be the way to go for him. On one controller, you control each system individually or group all the different systems together. Play different stuff on different systems all at the same time if you want. The Sonos sets up it's own wi-fi so it shouldn't interfere with other stuff you may have streaming around. Downside for him, is at each system you need one Sonos box. 3 different systems requires 3 boxes, which adds up......and don't ask why I keep saying 3 systems. He never really said how many I don't think.HT SYSTEM-

The multiple systems isnt the issue, its the fact the library isnt centralized. Once that done, there are a multitude of devices out there that will let you play the same or different audio files.
