Questions:
Can I use HK 3770 8 OHM SAFELY? (specs say 5 ohm)
Is $400 good price?
Is this a worthwhile upgrade to my Monitor 10-b

Worthwhile upgrade ?? Yep
Use the HK ? Yep....but I'd take it easy on the upper ends of the volume dial. They'll sound much better with a separate amp hooked up to them.HT SYSTEM-

Looks like $449 is the price NEW. So 400 used, not so much!
Also, the specs list the HK as 6/8 ohm compliant? And do not give a 4 ohm rating which they DID on the previous model 3490. The newer 3770 seems to have the same 120 watts x 2 into 8 ohms that the 3490 had but it is 10 pounds LIGHTER! And the 3490 had a 4 ohm rating of 150 watts x 2? But otherwise the specs look similar.
Wonder if HK is using some sort of class D amplification instead of the AB on the previous model? Otherwise just how do you lose all that weight and still maintain the same power at 8 ohms?
On everything else, I'm with Tony above. Take some care with it. And see if you can get a LOWER price!Currently orbiting Bowie's Blackstar.!

I'd be very hesitant. Those appear to be 1Bs, which are 4 ohm nominal to start, and will drop below that at certain frequencies.Home Theater/2 Channel:

That is what I thought also, yes you will get sound out ...but that is about it, they need an amp to get the best out of them without cooking the receiver. -
Exactly, pretty sure those are 1B the 1C are more desirable and are 6 ohms.

Following up, I have an HK 3490, is that enough power to drive these speakers? (150 w @ 4 ohms)

nbrowser in his post above calls his 3490 a battle axe.Political Correctness'.........defined
